I’m not a horse person but have always been fascinated by these magnificent animals and the people obsessed with them. I like the stories, I like the characters, I like the usually happy and satisfying endings – in fact, there is not much that I don’t like about them really. I'm not really a "horsey" kind of girl although I love animals but rest assured, you don't have to know a whole lot about horses to appreciate this lovely, uplifting novel. What I didn’t know was that he had written a book about horsemanship which is used by Henri as a sort of bible for training horses. There are times when you want to throttle all of them but then later want to applaud them for what’s truly in their hearts. There are also some action-packed, heart-stopping sequences I wasn't expecting which involve a horse ride/chase through central London that may not be entirely believable to some readers but which I loved.

Anyone who is a regular visitor to and reader of my blog will know that I have a liking of Jojo Moyes’ books. Certainly the author captured the connection possible between horse and human, and I loved the quotes from Xenophon at the beginning of each chapter.
Henri has been trying to train Sarah in the basics of dressage, an equestrian sport defined by the International Equestrian Federation as “the highest expression of horse training” in which “horse and rider are expected to perform from memory a series of predetermined movements. But I was so disappointed with this book, it is a far cry from the other 8 books of hers I have read.Definitely read if you like horses, or even just enjoyed the dressage this summer (although the airs above the ground are rarely performed outside displays by La Cadre Noir and The Spanish Riding School of Vienna). When I came to take a quick peek I saw a four star review by GR friend Jonetta, and that was good enough for me.
