About this deal

Just like Keyana, my mother or grandmother would sit me between her legs as the moisturized my scalp and styled my hair. The authors both showed all throughout the book the unique styles and how to be proud of your crown. At times it was unpleasant, especially if my hair was sometimes snagged while combing out tangled areas.

She received her BFA in Illustration from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and her MFA in Illustration as Visual Essay from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. This book is to make all African American girls to feel good about their hair and love it even though it is different. This is great read-aloud for young children because they can easily identify with the main character. Lewis's (Creativity; Staying Cool) realistic watercolors take fanciful flight as parent and child describe what can be done with the girl's locks: braids at the top of Keyana's head become hoed rows of vegetables in a field behind her as Mama explains that she can ""plant rows of braids along your scalp, the way we plant seeds in our garden""; and, pictured against the night sky, the child's Afro-styled hair metamorphoses into an image of the earth as she notes that, when she lets it ""go any which-way it pleases,"" her hair surrounds her head ""like a globe. It also mentions bullying, a very real problem, but the adult takes time to reinforce the beauty lf natural hair.

For 20 years or so, I refused to wear my hair naturally because I did not appreciate or remember my natural texture. This is from a section where our main character’s teacher explains that when she was growing up (so she’s the girl in this picture) her parents believed in natural hair. The Love My Hair, Hair Massage Comb works with 650nm of Red Light Therapy to stimulate the hair follicles by increasing blood circulation and adjust endocrine, used to send oxygen and nutrition needed to the hair follicle. The creators of Big Boy place this story of a resourceful and thoughtful boy in the 1960s Tanzania of Mollel's childhood. Imaginatively, the woman goes on to say that she can spin it into a fine, soft bun or “plant rows of braids” along her scalp, prompting her daughter to think of other wonderful things she likes about her hair.I Love My Hair is the story of a young black girl who learns to find pride in her hair, even though it hurts sometimes when her mother combs it.

has been a staple in African-American picture books for over 20 years, and now has a fresh, updated cover that shines on the shelves! Every night before she goes to bed, Keyana sits down between her mother’s knees to have her hair combed. Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages.Natasha learned that her hairstyles made her happy and helped her to build her confidence as well as learn more about who she really is as a young African American girl. Imbued with warmth, Nolen\x92s (Harvey Potter\x92s Balloon Farm) story about a family working together toward a common goal will appeal to many audiences.

We offer the full range of all hairstyling, beauty treatments and tanning services for ladies and gentlemen alongside an onsite reflexologist and aesthetician. This would be a great book to teach about diversity, it is a very true example of what most little African American girls go through when getting our hair combed.I'm particularly interested in the ways that Tarpley and Lewis connect hair to the natural world, especially in the second to last image of Keyana standing with her back against a tree at dusk, with her hair indecipherable from the the vines on the tree. A modern classic, this whimsical story has been celebrating the beauty of African-American hair for over 20 years! I have even had some students jealous of my students with Black hair while my students with Black hair are simultaneously jealous of students with straight hair.
