About this deal

Suffering beatings and sexual abuse she struggles to understand what is happening to her and fights against the vicious sadistic head nun with every part of her tiny body. Bravo to all survivors and especially to those like this one who has the ability to push thru the horror of abuse and to inspire others to forgive. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. When she finally told the full extent of her story she learned others had made allegations against Sister O'Brien, and that she would have been charged if she hadn't died. Her first marriage failed, but she went on to marry her soulmate, Jack Hargreaves, and the couple were happy until his death in 2010.

Many shocking and heart-breaking revelations and stories are told in this book, and you will find yourself mad, sad, and will most likely cry as you read along. The statement went on: "In relation to this case, the Archdiocese safeguarding team was informed of the allegation made and the safeguarding co-ordinator in post at the time spoke at length with the individual and explored support which could be helpful to her.

And years later when a police investigation was launched she realises that the time has finally come to tell the truth. I literally could not put this book down once I began reading, and was on the edge of my seat the entire way through as I flipped through the pages to see what happened next. And so when their families spilled over it was, of course, the church who stepped in and took the extra ones away. The sisters were placed into Newstead Children's Home, on Old Mill Lane, Wavertree, and into the care of Sister O'Brien who moved there following the closure of Greenfield House in the early 1960s. Following the publication of Marie's book, we asked the diocese for a comment, pointing out she wanted an apology from the Pope although she had forgiven her tormentor.

She says: 'There were nuns everywhere and the atmosphere was very strict and I felt the first sense of unease. Notes from Marie's solicitor, AO Advocates, describe the effects of the abuse, stating: "The client experiences flashbacks and nightmares. She said her mother had an undiagnosed mental illness of depression - I wondered if it was clinical or just the correct response to her life - but says that she had a happy home life - and failed to bond with her children.
