About this deal

sex There are occasional sex references and innuendo, including to promiscuity, foot fetishes, and very discreet references implying a man may have been a sex worker.

The film stars Jennifer Saunders, Bally Gill, Russell Tovey, David Bradley, Derek Jacobi, and Judi Dench.Valentine, and head nurse Sister Alma Gilpin, who is to be honoured for her services to the Beth with a concert and the presentation of a medal.

The Bethlehem hospital, nicknamed "the Beth" by locals, staff and residents, is a small geriatric hospital in the city of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, being threatened with closure due to funding cuts to the NHS. There might be a glimmer of hope with this task as the government consultant tasked with the final evaluation - "Colin" (Russell Tovey) has his estranged father " Joe" (David Bradley) in that self same facility. Allelujah celebrates the spirit of the elderly patients whilst paying tribute to the deep humanity of the medical staff battling with limited resources and ever-growing demand, based on a play by Alan Bennett. Coraline, Stick Man, Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires, The Boy in the Dress, Grandpa's Great Escape, Patrick, Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, Sumotherhood, Dawn French is a Huge Tw*t, Sing, Sing 2 and Death on the Nile are the popular movies of Jennifer Saunders. On paper, Allelujah sounds like — and has been very much marketed as — a ‘Clap For Carers’-esque proud paean to the NHS, housed within an ultimately crowd pleasing comedy-drama.

Valentine deduces that Alma has been poisoning the most frail residents by lacing their night-time cups of warm milk with morphine.

In an epilogue, Valentine is shown working in an intensive care unit at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, where he encounters Ambrose, one of the Beth's former residents, who dies holding his hand. Jennifer Saunders, Bally Gill, Russell Tovey, David Bradley, Derek Jacobi, and Judi Dench are among the cast of the film, which is directed by Richard Eyre. A trailer has debuted for the feature adaptation of Alan Bennett’s play Allelujah which will come to cinema screens in March of 2023. When the geriatric ward in a small Yorkshire hospital is threatened with closure, the hospital decides to fight back by galvanizing the local community: they invite a news crew to film their preparations for a concert in honour of the hospital’s most distinguished nurse. The “Beth” is a small community facility which has attracted donations from celebrities after whom various parts of the building are named: the film is mostly set in the Shirley Bassey ward.If you are in the North America, look out for US/Canadian flag icons on popular product listings for direct links. When a small geriatric hospital in Northern England is threatened with closure, the staff and patients rally together to try and save it. But there might be something more threatening to the hospital itself, more deadly than the politicians ready to shut down the place at a moment's notice.

Russell Tovey plays Colin, a Department of Health consultant with precisely these prejudices who has to come and visit his ailing ex-miner dad Joe (David Bradley) at the Beth, a cantankerous old guy who has never been able to accept his son’s identity as a gay man. The place is run under the benignly imperious hand of "Sister Gilpin" (Jennifer Saunders) with Bally Gill's "Dr.Upon this news, the hospital decides to fight back, galvanising the local community by inviting a news crew to film their preparations for a concert in honour of the hospital’s most distinguished nurse. But this watchable, undemanding drama rolls along capably, enlivened by unmistakably Bennettian gags and drolleries which come along every minute or so. Further, the film is constantly compromised by its attempts to barb its bouquets of community cutesiness with polemical punches. all content and information unless pertaining to companies, studios or advertisers included on this site, and to movies, TV series and cinemas listed on this site.
