Lucozade Ribena Suntory has announced the launch of an ambitious redesign project of its Ribena bottles. Ribena Light is better for you than ordinary Ribena because it contains less sugar. It has few calories, no fat, and contains 80mg of Vitamin C. It is better for you than a lot of soft drinks. However, keep in mind that it contains artificial sweeteners which have been associated with weight gain and poor gut health. The design of the label was switched, which involved extensive product testing and investment to ensure that the drink would not be affected by the extra exposure to light while on shelf; consumers can leave the label and cap on the bottle to recycle it. This solves a problem the bottles were facing in the UK’s waste stream. Although Ribena’s bottles have always been recyclable, the sleeve’s dark colour and length could stop sensors at some recycling plants from identifying the clear, recyclable bottle underneath. Not only is the bottle made from 100% recycled plastic but the label has been minimised to ensure the bottle can be easily identified, sorted and recycled using standard industry technology.
