About this deal

With its bold, quirky illustrations and charming story of a lunar caretaker, Simon Bartram’s Man on the Moon series has become a modern picture book classic. Find out what he does on the moon; cleaning and tidying, welcoming visitors, performing tricks for tourists and much more. Find out what he does on the moon: cleaning and tidying, welcoming vistors, performing tricks for tourists and much more.

Since then, it's been a hilarious staple of night time reading, day time reading, Daddy reading to himself, and just general conversation between our children and ourselves. Personally, I loved the adult humour - the fact it only takes Bob 15 minutes to get to work on the Moon - and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this to my children; it has become a firm favourite at bedtime.

Man on the Moon: A Day in the Life of Bob (newly re-issued by Templar) is a truly wonderful piece of art and story alike. It toured to local schools and venues across the UK in summer 2010, followed by a second national tour in autumn 2011.

As the story progresses, the humorous narrative tells the reader that of course there are no aliens and that Bob is a Moon expert, but the illustrations clearly show aliens on each page - stealing his cake, hiding in a crater, in the bath tub. It’s a fantastic independent book seller that will actually be responsive and select appropriate books for you. When the Stupdendous Alacazamo finishes his magic show by making the moon disappear, it looks like Bob might be out of a. It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. Simon Bartram has illustrated four children's books, including PUMPKIN MOON, about which PUBLISHERS WEEKLY said, "Bartram reinvents David Weisner's TUESDAY with grimacing jack-o-lanterns and a hellfire orange gleam. There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors. I felt it both related to ordinary life (here on Earth) and yet provided some imaginative ideas about a place so far away and only seen (generally) at night. Charlotte has always loved the running gag that Bob lives in firm denial of the existence of aliens (despite actually owning an alien dog, and coming into close contact with aliens pretty much every single time he dons a spacesuit). Bob is a wonderful character and the story itself is simplistic enough to engage any child from three years upwards. But the double page spread in the centre is a BIT MUCH for 3 year olds and because of this, The Man on the Moon cannot be in the bedroom at night-time.

They would also only drop off a case of books and leave us to run it – it was so lovely to have you on hand to chat to the children and recommend them books, as well as the small (but appreciated! You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot! I've managed to get two weeks worth of work out of this one book alone and barely scratched the surface!
