About this deal

I don't want to go into more detail because I would end up making spoilers and I don't want that, so I am just gonna say. Overall, I did not find these moments sexy or funny. The language really pulled me out of the story and made me feel shut out. Again, I’m used to this. I’ve been used to it for most of my romance reader career. But it is very frustrating to be taken out of a story I’m loving, and I want it to stop happening.

I loved A Witch's Guide to Fake Dating a Demon! It's the most utterly witchy sort of meet-cute, and I loved their banter. I loved the awkwardness of the relationship - what exactly does a witch do with a sexy demon that she's summoned? Romance readers know this answer. It was quirky, witty, and sexy all at once, and Oz is a delicious swoon-worthy hero. The small-town-with-magic setting is just as charming as the characters and made me want to visit Glimmer Falls. Highly, highly recommended for Nalini Singh fans who like a side of Charmed to their romance."—Jessica Clare, New York Times bestselling author of Go Hex Yourself How is your spellcraft going?" Diantha Spark's strident voice burst through the speaker, and Mariel pulled the phone away from her ear. "Did you summon an air sprite correctly?" Life wasn’t a fairy tale full of true love and redeemed villains. The villains were called that for a reason. There’s a lot of sex positivity in this book. I liked Oz and Mariel’s upfront, very intentional, sex talk. Body parts are described explicitly. Oz and Mariel are very honest and descriptive about what they find sexy. Gardening was one area in which Mariel excelled, both magically and nonmagically. She'd won Best in Class for Dianthus and Alstroemeria at the previous year's Pacific Northwest Floral Championships-Supernatural Division, which was one of the tentpole events of the annual Glimmer Falls Autumn Festival. In just a few weeks, Mariel would be gunning for Best in Show with a display of magically enhanced blooms. If you’re craving some witchy vibes or want all the feelings of a cozy romance, then this is it.”—Culturess

Thank you so much to Berkley Romance and Netgalley for providing an advanced copy of this. All thoughts and opinions are still my own. This is laugh out loud, extremely smart, entertaining paranormal romance! A young witch who hasn’t discovered her full potential, nourishing her plants, enduring her ultra narcissistic mother’s verbal abuse accidentally summons a powerful demon who insists to take away her magic/ soul!

Hawley delights in her humorous and romantic paranormal debut…Hawley ably navigates life and love among toxic family members, fantastical chaos, and small-town politics—with some steamy scenes and plenty of dad jokes along the way. This is a treat.”— Publishers Weekly Ozroth was not what I expected. He’s a demon but at no point was he truly ever monstrous & heartless like someone with a title of “Ruthless” would be. He came off as juvenile himself. Terribly disappointed in his character. I just…needed more? If you’re going to write about this type of thing the light & witty path is not the one to go down. I also wish Mariel would’ve refrained from telling her friends that she was fake dating Oz because it kinda dampened the effect. I wanted even more from the fake dating element because it was so fun seeing them interact. We were also robbed of a good drunk demon scene! Oz was buzzed and then immediately it was killed by the fight 😭
