About this deal

This really got my attention in its second half. The tone doesn't take a 180, necessarily, but it's pretty darn close. After Aristia makes a decision regarding the goddess of this world's fate for her, she goes about changing her life. This includes having an affectionate relationship with her father, training in the sword, and gaining her first friend (who immediately decides he wants to marry her. heh). Perhaps most importantly for her continued survival, she wants nothing to do with the emperor, who at this point in time is the heir to the throne since his father is still alive. The Abandoned Empress is a webnovel written by Yuna with a webcomic adaptation drawn by Ina. The webcomic and novel have official English translations on Tappytoons and the original can be found on Kakao . There is the moment in the carriage when in the manhwa Allen kisses Tia's hand. In the novel he kisses her on the lips, while she's sleeping - so unconscious and very much unconsenting.

But the empress is ambushed, and loses her child in the process. Who gets blamed? Her family. More specifically; her father. Despite her begging for mercy, her father, the only person she has left, is unjustly killed to pay for a crime he didn’t even commit. She becomes infuriated, and in a moment of craziness, stabs the emperor. I mean… my QUEEN. YOUR MAJESTY! I DID NOT REALIZE YOU HAD IT IN YOU, BUT NEVER HAVE I LOVED YOU MORE DURING MY ONE HOUR READING THIS VOLUME! At this moment, she was a true queen. No one can convince me otherwise. Even if she is executed for her attempt, I don’t care. SHE STILL GOT HIM TO FEEL SOME OF THE PAIN HE SUBJECTED HER TO ALL HER LIFE. If only he died… but he doesn’t, and she does, at his hands. We all know that already, since it was the first scene in the volume.Allen wants to inherit the household, thinking he is better than his brother, but the parents think it's unfair, since the oldest son is supposed to inherit. While the covers and illustrations are definitely 10/10, I’m not as satisfied with the story as I would have expected. We start with Aristia as a grown-up who gets screwed over by a god, and so her life is miserable. The man she was told she would marry had to be given up when the real girl from the prophecy comes to claim him, giving this series a slightly isekai vibe. Cannot Spit It Out: Carsein never makes his intentions towards Tia unambiguous, so while she seems vaguely aware of how he feels, she also ends up hesitating to reexamine their relationship. It's interesting to note that the actual world traveler from Earth is the woman who replaces the plot position (female lead to emperor) of the protagonist here, which is an interesting take on PoV. The protagonist also starts off as an Ice Queen, which appeals to my tastes. Her determination to do better in this life and her hatred and anger and fear of her ex-husband she still may have feelings for are pretty well done too. Less enthusiastic about every guy in the vicinity falling hard for her as soon as she becomes less of an ice queen. Let me have my relentless Ice Queens please why can I not keep them. But I guess at least she is nowhere near as saccharine as some of the other girl reincarnated into younger body stories?

More subtly, it's implied she knows Carsein likes her as well, but since he can't seem to bring himself to unambiguously pursue her she only considers the idea once or twice. Otherwise, she's just happy to treat him like an older brother. Ass Pull: The story's handling of Aristia overcoming her trauma comes across as this to some, feeling rather abruptly resolved especially in regards to Ruveliss, even amongst people who support the final pairing. Break the Cutie: Original Aristia was quiet, dutiful and not very expressive with her emotions, leaving Ruveliss to feel like she didn't have any. As such, his behavior towards her grows more and more abusive until she finally suffered a breakdown, at which point her father tried to get her out of the palace. Jeremia is Aristia's late mother who has few memories of or information about her due to having Jeremia passed away when Aristia was young.Oh, and BIG SPOILER ABOUT ALLEN, but Allen, despite being much more capable than his brother, is passed over in favor of his older brother.

Heroic BSoD: One meeting with Ruve goes very badly as Tia ends up going catatonic for quite some time after being forced headfirst into her old trauma. After she comes out of it the two get along somewhat better. The massive complaint and argument that is bound to be found when talking about The Abandoned Empress is the ending. Specifically, the fact that Aristia ends up with Ruve. This caused many a reader to stop reading after they found out about the ending due to the abuse that the original Ruve had put on her and believe that even if he changed in the new timeline, they don't accept it as it comes across as an Unfortunate Implications that Tia ends up with the man who abused her in the past (I.E, the original timeline), and would rather have Tia be paired with Carsein or Allendis. However, there is a second party who are accepting it with the argument that Aristia is paired with a Ruve who changed and end up being kinder towards her due to For Want Of A Nail effects in play, and shouldn't be held accountable for the actions of the original timeline Ruve, considering them as different individuals. Then there's the middle ground: those who find the fact uncomfortable but still continue to read despite knowing that regardless to see how the webcomic adaptation handles this and eventually accepting how the matter is handled or they don't.With webtoons becoming more and more popular in the West, publishing houses have started releasing print editions of them at a growing rate. Yen Press has even announced a new imprint, Ize Press, whose focus starting in the autumn will be on Korean webtoons. Carsein ends up alone at the end of the novel. But in the collection of sides stories in volume 6, we learn that he's married (it is unlikely to be Lady Genoa, as she was engaged (and married?) to Alexis - Allen's brother.) He has a son called Gradis who is the playmate of Tia and Ruve's daughter Diana (Dia, who is her mother's replica with her silver hair and golden eyes). I don't know if they will keep it in the manhwa as they cut Allen's kiss. But it's innocent enough so I bet they'll keep it. It's not long before he gives her the red dress and they go to the ball together. (Carsein did it with a political intent but Ruve doesn't know that and is very depressed.)

Aristia is depicted as a beautiful pale-skinned girl with wavy butt-length silver-white hair (which she inherited from her father Keirean la Monique) that has bangs covering her forehead (her bangs are sometimes seen swept to either side) and golden-yellow eyes (which she inherited from her mother Jeremia la Monique). I recommend you to read this manhwa as if you're reading a mystery story. You need to be on the look out for minor details that may be significant in the future. As the story goes, more things will be unfolded and it will give you new perspective about the circumstances and the characters. In Aristia's childhood, Aristia was taught to suppress emotions, portraying an outward aloof and cold composure. She suppressed her pain, anger and desperation within herself that she didn't show any signs of sorrow even at the death of her unborn baby. She held an unrequited love for her fiance, Ruvellis Kamaludin Shana Castina, despite his cold behavior towards her. Many also compared this work to Doctor Elise and the ML's behaviour towards the FL in the 1st timeline was more reasonable. Like imagine being forced to marry a Rashta like lady. And the plot of Doctor Elise focused more on redemption.

Overall score: 8/10; This work earns a personal higher score but with a Mixed Feelings recommendation, as there are many elements of this series that don't match up with what one would do themselves if they were in Aristia's shoes. Without spoiling the ending, there are three main love interests with whom Aristia works through her relationships. Two end up left behind, and one prevails. It is likely the original novel's Late-Arrival Spoiler: Because the webnovel comes out first, a lot of readers are at least aware of the ending that Aristia is paired with Ruve. There's something that makes reincarnation and/or time-slip stories appealing to me. In part it's the ordinary thing of imagining how one's life might be if they made different, better decisions. Already Aristia's life is happier because of how she treats those around her, and although self-preservation is an obvious motive, things become better for them, too. Plot: Deposed Empress of a protagonist is displaced to her 10-year old self, and devotes all her time and effort to not be completely in love with her asshole fiance of an Emperor this time. In the process she gets closer to people she valued in her previous life, and also makes a few new friends.
