About this deal

With the advent of 9th Edition, at long last the “Start Collecting” range phaseout began with the Combat Patrol line taking its place. These were a little pricier, but again the discount was variable. Enter the Drukhari Troops: 5 Hekatrix Bloodbrides, 1 with shardnet and impaler, Hekatrix has Agoniser – 75pts – Combat Drugs: Grave Lotus (+1 Strength) As the Cicatrix Maledictum tore the galaxy in two, the Greater Daemon of Khorne emerged into realspace, declaring that only he could eradicate the Blood Angels. Trapped between a bloodthirsty daemonic horde and an all-devouring xenos swarm, the Blood Angels seemed to have gone out of the frying pan and into the fire (which is just how a Haruspex likes its Space Marines to be cooked).

Plenty of Boarding Patrol boxes are coming to join the fun – but the starfaring Aeldari are masters of sailing through the void, and their spiky cousins are no strangers to raiding stranded vessels and even space hulks. Boarding Patrol: Eldar You don't need enough heavy weapons fire to be able to eliminate a Tyranid Hive Tyrant in a single turn, but you should have some way to damage robust units at range. Brightlances and D-Cannons can be highly efficient here, but so is high volume small arms fire if you cast DOOM on the target or GUIDE in a list making use of the custom Craftworld trait, “Hail of Doom.” Honestly, the way the game stands at the moment volume of fire combined with GUIDE or DOOM tends to be the most optimal approach for target elimination, partially because squads using this approach can threaten any target in the game- large units of Dire Avengers are especially good at this. There are many elite units which excel at one battlefield role, rewarding an observant commander who can be flexible on the fly. Harlequins must be used with even more precision – they’re faster and deadlier yet as they caper across the warzone, but their only real armour is surprise. The Hive Tyrant can be equipped with a variety of grotesque bio-weapons for melee and ranged combat, allowing you to build a monster adapted to dealing with any foe. You can even build the kit as a Winged Hive Tyrant – or the fearsome Swarmlord. Also, GW mentioned the Thousand Sons and the Grey Knights boxes will hit shelves in March 2022, so look for those very soon! The new Tyranid Combat Patrol will be out soon, but the Aeldari, Grey Knights, and Thousand Sons boxes are coming even sooner. Farseers with FORTUNE and EXECUTIONER in Ulthwe or Children of Prophecy lists are a good example of this kind of versatility. They can score “Warp Ritual” or “Psychic Interogation” with fair reliability and spend a CP to either provide a defensive buff, debuff, or do some real damage with EXECUTIONER. Alternatively, they can pivot into full murder-mode throwing down SMITE and EXECUTIONER on the same target if something really needs to die. (EXECUTIONER is amazing in 500pt games by the way, for obvious reasons.) Get ready for the new Tyranid codex by grabbing this Hive Mind notebook , which is perfect for jotting down your favourite Space Marines recipes. Sign up for our newsletter , so you don’t miss any of the latest Tyranid updates. There’s a rich vein of fiction to explain the Aeldari in more detail. Gav Thorpe’s landmark omnibus, Path of the Eldar , covers many aspects of the Aeldari, while Ghost Warrior explores the newly formed Ynnari faction, and The Masque of Vyle focuses on the Harlequins. Building an effective 500pt list is a much like building a 2k list; it's a matter of thinking about what obstacles your list is likely to encounter and making sure it has ways to overcome them. With so few points at your disposal, however, every unit needs to offer an effective answer to one or more of these obstacles. Here are some questions you should ask yourself during list construction:Despite allying with a force of Necrons under Anrakyr the Traveller , the Blood Angels and Flesh Tearers could do little but delay the coming of Leviathan. Dante put the call out in the successor Chapters’ group chat – he needed all the help he could get to defend Baal. I’d consider having some fun and getting some more of the specialist units like Fire Dragons, Swooping Hawks or Dire Avengers. But really, you need to probably lean into the speed of this list. Perhaps drop the Wraithlord and think about more bikes or things like Swooping Hawks etc. Regardless of whether you are a player new to 40k looking to get started with the few models you already have, or a veteran Warhammer enthusiast with a collection so large that your wallet shudders whenever it is near, 500pt matches are a great way to enjoy the hobby. These games are fast, surprisingly dynamic, and highly tactical. In 9th edition, 500pt play presents many of the same tactical considerations as 2000pt play but with a much faster pace. It is without a doubt the best way to learn the game, and probably the most efficient way for experienced players to get multiple reps in a single evening. This box arrives in April, and it’s not the only Combat Patrol coming your way. Before the Aeldari get their turn, the Thousand Sons and Grey Knights are taking to the field with boxes of their own, both of which will be here in March. Since we are leaning into that Saim-Hann theme it would be appropriate to snag another Combat Patrol box. Doubling down on this core allows us to do a few things. First, we get another 10 Guardians. We can use them to fill out the previous squad or use them as two 10-man squads. Either option is useful for various reasons. Second, it gives us a total of 12 Jetbikes. We’re gonna need them. The additional Farseer and Wraithlord are less helpful here but maybe not as terrible as you might think.

Speed and precision are the name of the game, as most Aeldari units – from Aspect Warriors to Fire Prisms – can move fast and hit hard, but can’t weather much return fire. Aeldari armies are highly mobile, a specialised scalpel that can bring down a much more powerful opponent by careful application of incredible force.Which of these strategies is best depends on the list you are facing and the skill and playstyle of your opponent.

Formed around a core of redoubtable, objective-grabbing Guardians , this Combat Patrol offers a force that embodies everything the Aeldari are famed for – speed, psychic abilities, and withering firepower. It’s led by a sagacious Farseer, who can dish out mortal wounds and tweak the Strands of Fate in between supporting the CORE -keyworded Guardians and Wraithlord. In conclusion, the Aeldari Combat Patrol box earns a solid 7/7 for its harmonious unit selection and the strategic depth it offers. Though the Aeldari may not be the most durable, they more than make up for it with their psychic abilities, speed, and grace, making them a rewarding and engaging faction to master. For the Craftworlds! To put it more simply: you win this game by scoring points, so when you build a list for competitive play, you should start by considering exactly how you are going to do so. I already mentioned earlier some of my own favorite secondary objective options, so I will not do so again here- just be sure you have a plan for how you can reliably get to at least 30 points for secondaries. The Aeldari are a long-lived race, but in the aftermath of the Fall, they faced a slow demise, and a horrifying afterlife – for Slaanesh has staked its claim on each Aeldari soul in death. In response, the Asuryani bound themselves to soulstones, which capture their souls at their deaths to prevent Slaanesh from taking them. In times of great need, these soulstones are embedded in wraithbone constructs, so that the dead can bolster the armies of the living. There are many such constructs, including the mighty Wraithlord , the towering Wraithknight , and beyond. Fire Prism
