My main issue with the anthology is that a LOT of it is dedicated to cishet perspectives on the Pulse shooting, allyship, LGBTQ issues, and LGBTQ spaces. Recurring themes include "how do I, a cishet ally, explain this tragedy to my child," "that time someone came out to me," and the platitude of love being stronger than hate, offered by those not affected by the hate sanctioned by our laws and ingrained in our culture. LOVE IS LOVE reads like a book about the LGBTQ community—but by and for cishet allies, who at best cannot contribute anything as true and nuanced as LGBTQ creators can and at worst are straight-up offensive. I found myself sighing in relief when my favorite cishet creators' contributions were completely unremarkable. That said, I appreciate very much the frank and positive look at the use of "gay" as a pejorative and the main character's embrace of the word as accurate and a compliment, and it was surprising and refreshing to see the book express to children that some gay people still try to pretend they aren't gay because others believe gay is something to be ashamed of.

I found it fairly interesting while I was reading it but after I felt like there wasn't enough 'meat' whatever that may mean. Some of these comics brought tears to my eyes, both with the power behind them and the fact that this exists. I wish we lived in a world where there was a never a need for such a collection. Her issues with men and her ability to see it more clearly over time was also interesting but a bit much. This book touches on the idea of open acceptance and explains in the end of the book ways that educators, parents and other influential people can bring in the conversation of different family dynamics in a way that is beneficial to the students.
