They wanted her to marry a king, but she said she was married to Christ. So, they tried to crush her on a big wooden wheel, but it shattered into a thousand splinters – huge sharp splinters – which flew into the crowd, killing and blinding many bystanders.’ ‘ In a 2014 interview, Boyle stated that, had he and Cottrell-Boyce been more confident, they would have made the film as a musical, with the characters singing and dancing. Boyle was interested in having Noel Gallagher write original songs for the film. [2] Release [ edit ] Home media [ edit ] Everyone started laughing. Everyone always laughs at that name. They probably laughed at it in 670– 700 too.

Frank Cottrell-Boyce is an accomplished, successful and award-winning author and screenwriter. His books have been shortlisted for a multitude of prizes, including the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize, the Whitbread Children's Fiction Award (now the Costa Book Award) and the Roald Dahl Funny Prize and Millions, his debut children's novel, won the CILIP Carnegie Medal 2004. Cottrell-Boyce was born in 1959 in Bootle near Liverpool to a Catholic family. He moved to Rainhill, [5] while still at primary school. [ clarification needed] [6] He attended St Bartholomew's Primary School in Rainhill [7] and West Park Grammar School. [5] He was greatly influenced by reading Moomins growing up. [8] They way Frank Cottrell Boyce describes the events that unfold, to me, seems detached. Even though the novel is written in Damian's perspective, it seems like their is still this barrier between the emotions and what is actually happening. Many good novels are good because of how they make a reader feel. Millions doesn't give me any types of feelings; it's more of a retelling of a story that happened with someone else- like the person telling the story can't show the emotions of the characters because s/he wasn't there and therefore didn't experience it. Other than that I think Millions was well written, and the characters were portrayed in different interesting lights. The author unravelled the mysteries and tied any loose endings very well. Brown, Mark (23 March 2011). "Ian Fleming's Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to fly again". The Guardian. London.Frank Cottrell Boyce started writing as a scriptwriter, working on Coronation Street and Brookside and writing screenplays for a number of successful films. Millions began as a screenplay for a film to be directed by Danny Boyle. Boyle encouraged Cottrell Boyce to turn it into a novel which was published before the film came out. This is one of those children's books that seems to be operating on two levels. Although I do think it would appeal to the more intelligent readers in the 10-13 age group, a lot of the humour and commentary is probably aimed more at an adult level of understanding. (The real estate and financial commentary of the protagonist's older brother, Anthony, is one example that comes to mind.)

Alison Flood (24 October 2012). "Frank Cottrell Boyce wins Guardian children's fiction prize". The Guardian. London . Retrieved 24 October 2012. Leonard Maltin praised the film upon its DVD release, saying " Millions is a winning and unpredictable fable from England that will charm viewers both young and old." [9] Christian film critics [ edit ] This edition features fantastic cover artwork from the incredible Steven Lenton. About This Edition ISBN: Johnathan Wooten of Christian Spotlight on Entertainment downplayed the significance, saying, "Those concerned about objectionable content will not find much to offend here though. There is very little violence (a short robbery scene, a very brief moment of a child in peril). Sexual content includes a glimpse of an unmarried couple in bed together as well as pre-pubescent boy viewing an Internet lingerie ad. When played out the latter scene actually has a strange wholesomeness to it considering his other viewing options. The only profanity is some mild British slang." [12] Accolades [ edit ]Anthony thinks Damian needs to do more to blend in, not stand out. Anthony does not mind, thinking that saints like Joseph of Copertino were laughed at and persecuted. Damian also notes that Saint Francis of Assisi, who stole cloth from his father to give to the poor, is the patron saint of the story. Brothers Damian and Anthony accidentally get caught up in a train robbery gone wrong and find themselves owners of a huge bag of money. Damian believes the cash is a gift from God and must be used for good but Anthony has other ideas. With only seventeen days until the Euro replaces the Pound they must spend it fast. End world poverty? Buy a lot of pizza? Meanwhile, the crooks who tried to rob the train are looking for their loot and closing in. He was looking for someone else now, but I was enjoying being excellent. Catherine of Alexandria (4th century) came to mind. Harper Collins Authors & Illustrators: Frank Cottrell-Boyce biography". Harpercollinschildrens.com. 27 May 2010 . Retrieved 29 July 2012.

He has also created a fantastic trilogy, writtenwith his trademark wit, warmth and sense of story, based upon Ian Fleming's novel, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, comprising Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the Race Against Time and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Over the Moon. He met Denise Cottrell, a fellow Keble undergraduate, and they married in Keble College chapel. Together they have seven children. [9] He is also a patron of the Insight Film Festival, [10] a biennial, interfaith festival held in Manchester, UK, to make positive contributions to understanding, respect and community cohesion. Millions is about two young brothers who come across millions of pounds and their decisions on what they do with it.
