About this deal

Like other Destroyers, Destroyer Lords modify their bodies and minds, so that they might be better suited to their overarching purpose, to cleanse the stars of all life. While this most often includes the attachment of an anti-gravitic suspensor platform in place of legs, Destroyer Lords tend to forgo the ranged weaponry commonly employed by other Destroyers in favour of melee weapons. These are both phenomenal Armies of Renown on almost all fronts. Interesting and diverse, propping up the many units in them and separating out two parts of the Necron Codex normally used together has allowed those units to explore more design space and create some truly unique options that play nothing like the main codex. The primary issue with Armies of Renown in the past has been when they manifest as “Meta List but better”, or just better than the main codex (See Crusher Stampede, Speed Freeks and Skitarii Veteran Cohort for examples of these). Can only set up within Engagement Range of enemy units that are already within Engagement Range of the Reanimated model's unit. Canoptek Overcharge gives Wraiths the ability to fight on Death for just a single CP, which makes the trading game option for Necrons even stronger, and Enhanced Gloom Prisms can give you +2 to roll on your Gloom Prisms for a single deny, which is some good anti-psyker utility in a pinch.

What makes the Necron Destroyer so different from other denizens of a Tomb World is not his violent madness alone. Insanity infects many a slumbering Necron, though it rarely takes a dramatic form, but instead merely exacerbates the victim's innate eccentricities. No one has borne witness to the atrocities committed by these steel harbingers of apocalypse and lived, and so one can only guess at the danger posed by the threat stirring on barren worlds scattered across the galaxy. While many Necron Lords and Overlords are afflicted by "eccentricities," the insanity that consumes the mind of a Destroyer Lord is something else entirely. Some weapons have ‘Blast’ listed in their profile’s abilities. These are referred to as Blast weapons. In addition to the normal rules, the following rules apply to Blast weapons: Example: Matts army is led by an Overlord (a NECRONS CHARACTER), and every model in it is from the same dynasty, therefore he must assign command protocols. He selects the following, writing them down on his army roster:If every unit from your army (excluding DYNASTIC AGENT, C’TAN SHARD and UNALIGNED units) is from the same dynasty, and you select a NECRONS CHARACTER model to be your WARLORD, this unit is eligible to benefit from this ability and the following rules apply. This is a great generic box. There’s no special characters and all the units inside are scary in close combat. That makes this a fast and deadly force in Boarding Action games. You aren’t going to be generating a lot of long range death here, but that’s okay! You’ll mop-up in close.

Canoptek Plasmacytes have Dimensional Translocation, so they Deep Strike. They have 8" movement vs the Oph's 10", so they might get left behind long term, and have to be 3" from Destroyers to be useful, so gotta be making them charges too. I do wish they'd left them in the same unit as an extra wound and the same charge, but I guess it doesn't matter for their points. Surprise – there are actually no fewer than three versions of this list here. The first (in the expand tags below) is what I took to the Bournemouth Brawl, and it felt promising, but like it needed either more mobility or some more reliable reach. Original List

Weapon and Model Options

The insane Destroyers are shunned and feared even by their fellow Necrons. These outcasts gather on the fringes of Tomb Worlds to form Destroyer Cults of the Red Harvest, said to be led by Necron Lords afflicted with the same madness. Below we’ll showcase the value you get from the individual kits that comprise this Boarding Patrol. A Destroyer's chilling dedication to destruction is a valuable addition to any Necron dynasty's army. On most campaigns, their brutal efficiency more than compensates for the almost habitual insubordination with which they treat other Necrons of all ranks.

Global prices have been estimated from similar-priced products. Boarding Patrol: Necrons – Price Value & Savings Summary Annihilation Barge • Catacomb Command Barge • Doomsday Ark • Ghost Ark • Tesseract Ark • Tomb Blade • Monolith ( Doomsday Monolith) • Megalith • Obelisk • Tesseract Vault • Dias of Dominion and Triarchal Menhirs • Triarch Stalker None of the others provide the consistent power needed to want them up all the time, but having these three to flex between game-to-game is extremely strong. As Novokh I’ve been defaulting to the Hungry Void, but even there I switched it out to Sudden Storm when I was across the table from Harlequins, because the extra S and AP would do very little for me while extra mobility to face the clowns would do a lot. Units to Watch With any Army of Renown it’s important to start with what is being taken away. This will form the basis of how lists that use these rules will be compared to what came before. Thankfully in both cases, there are some shared similarities and some key differences that will help inform the competitive outlook of both of these options. Chronomancer ( Orikan the Diviner) • Plasmancer • Psychomancer • Technomancer ( Illuminor Szeras) • ApprentekIf these have been sitting on your shelf, time to get them out and give them a try. Playing Nephilim Missions Necron Lord | Imotekh the Stormlord | Trazyn the Infinite | Xun'bakyr, the Mother of Oblivion | Anrakyr the Traveller | Galmakh the Moon Killer | Sylphek the Celestial | Lokhust Lord Destroyer Contender #2: Skorpekh Destroyers. They are really good in close combat, they've got great survivability with stratagem support, and they can dish our some serious damage with a Plasmacyte and reroll support. These guys are now a bread and butter melee murder machine for most Necron players. Each time a unit's reanimation protocols are enacted, make Reanimation Protocol rolls for that unit by rolling a number of D6 equal to the combined Wounds characteristics of all the reassembling models. Each Reanimation Protocol roll of 5+ is put into a pool. A Reanimation Protocol roll can never be modified by more than -1 or +1. Ophydian Destroyers are more advanced versions of standard Canoptek Wraiths. They are a bit more durable and do a bit more damage. They can only be built by a Canoptek Spyder that has collected at least 2 bodies.

Lastly we come again to the Stratagem List, and the reason you’ll want to bring the Autodivinator and keep your other spending low to the ground. In addition, if all units from your army are from the same dynasty (excluding DYNASTIC AGENT, C’TAN SHARD and UNALIGNED units), select one command protocol that has not been assigned to a battle round (there will typically only be one). That command protocol is active in every battle round in addition to the one assigned to that battle round – select which directive your units will benefit from at the start of each battle round. Note that if this additional command protocol is the one described in your dynasty’s code, this means both of its directives apply to all units with this ability in your army in every battle round, in addition to the protocol assigned to that battle round. The available command protocols are shown below. Hungry Void: +1S in the first round of combat all of the time rules, and if you’re Novokh the occasional extra AP is more relevant than you might think in the Armour of Contempt metagame. This is another meat-and-potatoes box. Nothing fancy here just the basics. That’s not a bad thing! The Necrons can get the job done without getting super flashy. In a Boarding Action game, this box can do work. Lychguard shine in cramped spaces while the warriors take objectives and lay down decent firepower. The Ophydian Destroyers are plenty fast, too.Top-tier Secondaries: Necrons get some of the best Secondaries in the game, letting them score points very aggressively. Another wonderfully thematic addition is the Mindless Reaper Battle Scar, which sees a Destroyer Cult unit descend even further into ultra-violent psychosis, which is both a blessing and a curse. So where do these land? In a strictly competitive sense, Necrons as a whole have become somewhat monolithic in their style. The objective secured + pregame move combination crowds out all but the most dedicated fans of other lists. With the power of Necron secondaries being somewhat dependent on that speed and scoring capability, turning that down and limiting your unit pools certainly seems difficult to justify. So, what are the two Armies of Renown?
