About this deal

Livy and Slade will own your soul wholeheartedly from the suspense to the angst to all the drama in between, tears will flow, hearts will break, but at the end of it you'll come out with a heart full of love, these two were perfectly imperfect but perfect for each other.

i think both of the main characters were both sort of emotionally complex. even though i sort of hated theo A LOT….i understood him. but the female main character specifically was so emotionally complex and i loved being in her headspace. certain coping mechanisms and thought processes of hers were super relatable. the characters were very real and raw and human. The story was light in the beginning. But upon reaching around 60% mark.. BAM!! Full blown roller coaster ride. It's pretty awesome to have a documentation of the breakup of a relevant relationship in your life, physical and in your hands, it's just also kind-of morbid or something, I couldn't keep that thought out of my head through every single chapter. How this happened five years ago (I've watched the author on YouTube that long! longer actually!) and how she must have been reliving it every day ever since, prompting this book and the idea. Now I won't be going into the actual plotline and I won't be revealing anything really, so you will all just have to make do with me gushing my feelings about this book. This one should definitely be read blind... Live was this beautiful free spirit that loved and loved hard. Her over protective father did nothing to deter her from her boy chasing ways. But Slade is definitely not a boy and he's certainly not at all what he seems. A smart, touching, time-bending romance. Funny and affecting.”—David Nicholls, bestselling author of One Day and Sweet Sorrow

This premise is SO GOOD. Honestly, I really love sort of outside of the box formats in books and seeing a relationship develop from the end towards the beginning of their relationship is so interesting to me. Out of Love might not be for everyone. Some might be annoyed with knowing how the relationship will end and having to go through the whole relationship. But to me, this was a really interesting exploration of love, life, and trauma. You slowly get the full picture of all characters and which things made them into the people they are at the beginning of the book. This book was really special to me and made me tear up multiple times (at parts that were not even particularly sad but just resonated with me). I am having a hard time giving this a rating because the story itself was not that new or exciting. The way the story was phrased and the feelings I had during this book make me lean towards a five-star rating. Also, the Irish culture included in this book was so much fun and when reading I often did hear it in my head in an Irish accent (thanks to Hazel's videos probably).

Customer reviews

Even though I liked this unique concept, there are some problematic things bothered me to enjoy the full ride. I adored Livy and her feistiness! She never let Slade’s asshole ways get to her. And he can be a JERK. They fall in love a bit too fast for my liking, but I always enjoyed anytime these two characters were in a room together, because sparks flew. Slade and his strange job are a mystery to Livy, though it is fairly easy to predict what it is. The last third of the book is where all the craziness happens and everything starts to come together. I enjoyed the suspenseful aspect of this book, but I do have to say I loved the regular, college romance part just a liiittle bit more.

The platonic relationships within Out of Love are also illustrated lovingly. The novel details several friendships between women who lift each other up and, refreshingly, encourage positive change. So yeeah as I said a lot of angst and I usually don't dig too much angst, but this time it was good! The ending is very bittersweet tho. Since it is a spinoff you might get a spoiler of the series. I'd say read all the books because they are life changing. Hayes' writing is stunning at parts, and she has such a way with words that sometimes I just had to stop and really take in a sentence or section of the book. What's more, she is really very funny and some of the scenes and comments made me really laugh. Some of it is rather dry humour, but I love that. Wylder the sexy, serious, mysterious and wonderful man. A lot more like her daddy than Livy would want to admit to. LOLLivy Knight is from San Francisco, and has an overprotective dad who thinks nobody is good enough for his little girl. Since she was fifteen he's managed to scare off any guy she's been interested in. College is her chance to finally be free to make her own decisions. She's an impulsive free spirit that thrives on the unknown, and always seems to be drawn to men her father wouldn't approve of.
