About this deal

My recipes are all written in grams because it is the most accurate way to bake. When you use a kitchen scale, you ensure that your baked goods turn out as close to the written recipe as possible. Plus, the cleanup is way easier when using a scale! I will provide standard cup measurements but please note that I have not tested the recipe using cup measurements and therefore can not guarantee your recipe will come out how mine did. Here is my favorite kitchen scale, and here’s an article about why I use a kitchen scale, and why you should too! A note on oven temperature Photo Disclaimer: – Images used in this article are owned by the respective individuals, artists, or other parties who post on their private social media accounts. These images only serve as an inspiration and cannot be copied (images or designs) for personal use. Granulated sugar: for sweetening the cake and keeping it moist. The sugar also helps aerate the butter to give this cake its rise. The butterfly pea flower is a flowering plant that is most often used to make herbal teas. Butterfly pea flower tea is believed to be good for you thanks to the anthocyanins in the plant, which also give it its distinct blue pigment. Butterfly pea powder is simply the flower in powdered form, and is what we’ll be using for this cake. I will warn that the powder itself has a strong smell like matcha that might seem a little off-putting. However – you really cannot taste the powder in the cake itself as we’re using it for a fun, naturally dyed vanilla cake. What makes this cake magic? Whole milk: adds moisture – like above I recommend whole for the best results. However, 2%, 1%, or your favorite non-dairy milk should work just fine.

Each time I’ve made these delicate, butterfly-like creations, they are met with gasps of delight. And if you think they’re just another pretty cupcake, think again. Inside is a little dollop of raspberry jam hiding below a bigger dollop of freshly whipped cream! The flavor is outstanding! (Please use good quality ingredients, or the results will be disappointing; good jam and real, fresh, unsweetened cream are so important.) Then cut the loose piece in half to resemble butterfly wings. Place a small amount of jam in the center. Follow with a dollop of cream (or buttercream, if desired). You can also pipe the cream like I did. Next, place the "wings" on top. This is such a beautiful cake! I love the simplicity of it. The butterfly theme is brought to life with this personalized butterfly cake topper. It is important for the ingredients to be at room temperature so that they properly incorporate with each other and you don’t end up with a curdled, uneven batter. Take out the egg, butter, sour cream and milk at least 30 minutes and up to 1 hr 30 min. before starting the recipe. Here’s how to get room temperature ingredients FAST if you’re in a time crunch or forgot to take the ingredients out (like I often do): These butterfly cake toppers come in various sizes to give a natural element to any butterfly cake. They come in different colors, and you can choose between pink, purple, or white. All three sets come with accents of gold. Butterfly Toppers with Gorgeous Detail Egg: place the egg in a bowl and run hot water over it for 1 continuous minute, or let it sit in a bowl of warm water for 5 minutes. Please don’t think that butterfly cupcakes are difficult to make as they are truly one of the easiest cupcakes to decorate; even children can make them. You can use any flavor cake, but I think they look the nicest when using a white or vanilla cake (light colored). Then add about a third of the sifted flour. Repeat this step. Add the rest of the eggs and mix well, then turn the mixer to low and add the final flour.

Flavor Choices: Discuss flavor options with the baker. A great-looking cake is wonderful, but it should taste just as good. Ensure there are flavor choices that suit the birthday person’s preferences. Butterfly cupcakes are a quintessential treat that was served at almost every child’s birthday party in the UK when I was growing up. Traditional British butterfly cakes are (apparently) sometimes called fairy cakes, but no matter the name, they are simply delightful. TIP: If you need to have the butterfly cupcakes out for more than half an hour (for example a bake sale), then I’d advise using buttercream so that the cream won’t spoil This also works, and still tastes very good, but the authentic way (and my favorite way) is to use cream. When adding in the flour and milk, only fold until the last streak disappears. Overmixing the dough leads to more gluten formation, which will make your cake tough and chewy rather than light and fluffy.

Sour cream and milk: microwave them in 5-second intervals until it is no longer cold, but is not warm (room temp!) Butterfly-themed baby showers have been trending lately, which is not surprising since it’s such a beautiful, whimsical theme. How beautiful is this white and pastel butterfly cake? This particular one is a birthday cake, but this could easily be replicated as a butterfly baby shower cake. Flexibility: Be open to some creative input from the baker. They are experts in their field and might have suggestions that could enhance the final purple butterfly cake. Purple is a popular color scheme for butterfly baby showers as well. I love the ombre effect of this cake, starting with purple at the bottom tiers and working its way up to hot pink. The butterflies on the side are a stunning detail as well.

Create your own cake by using toppers, or you can have a baker or cake decorator custom-make your sweet treat using these photos as inspiration. This stand comes in various colors and is in the shape of a butterfly. It would look beautiful on any butterfly dessert table. Serve and enjoy! Once the cake has completely cooled, whip up the white chocolate ganache with a hand mixer. Spread it over the cake, serve, and enjoy! Butterfly pea flower cake Q & AGold is such a great accent color because it gives decor a pop. You can use these on cupcakes or all throughout your baby shower cake. Personalized Wood Cake Topper Ovens vary and fluctuate in temperature. For example, I always have to set my oven to 330°F if I want it to bake at 350°F. If you love to bake like I do, I highly recommend getting an oven thermometer. They are super helpful for letting you know when your oven might be lying to you! I use this one. Tools and ingredients

White chocolate chips: I recommend using a high-quality white chocolate chip, such as Ghirardelli, for the best results (and taste!)

Vegetable oil: for tenderizing the cake. You can substitute any neutral oil, such as canola, in place of vegetable oil. The simplicity of this cake is stunning. A single gold foiled butterfly topper sits on top of the floral accents on this white cake. If you want to have an ex-pat Brit begin to wax nostalgic about food, just mention butterfly cakes or fairy cakes. However, mention them to a non-Brit and they will probably give you a tilt of their head, and look of confusion. Allergies and Dietary Restrictions: If there are any allergies or dietary restrictions among the guests, communicate them clearly to the baker. They should be able to offer suitable alternatives. You can create a butterfly baby shower cake yourself or show any of these photos to your baker for a custom cake.
