About this deal

Like the Samyang MF 14mm f/2.8 for Canon EOS R-series and Nikon Z-series full-frame mirrorless cameras, this 85mm f/1.4 lens is well-built, feels robust and solid, and features weather-seals. You might not tend to shoot portraits in the rain but sometimes there’s no choice, like at weddings and other events. AF is achieved using a DLSM, Dual Linear Sonic Motor, which is fast, silent and accurate. One very welcome feature is the splashproof and dustproof weather sealing. Overall, the lens seems to be very well made. Hot Deal: Save an Extra 5% - 10% on Select Items With Payboo at B&H – Canon EOS R5, R3, and Many Other Items Included!

As previously mentioned, Samyang is the manufacturer of this lens, and it is available in Samyang or Rokinon brands. Above: Taking a closer look though reveals a problem with my old 85 1.8 with noticeably softer details that look blurred compared to the much crisper RF models. I retook this shot multiple times but failed to get an improvement when using the R5’s face and eye detect autofocus. Thanks to its compact optical design and aluminium construction, AF 85mm F1.4 RF lens comes in a compact design suitable for mirrorless cameras. The length is less than 10cm and it weighs 582g without lens cap and hood, enabling photographers to capture unforgettable moments anywhere, anytime with a portable lens. Features of the Samyang AF 85mm f1.4 I've used the RF 85mm f/2.0 IS stm for my kids going relatively fast on a slide towards me, and the AF of the lens simply does the job. So from my experience it is usable for some action. In that regard, the Rokinon (Samyang) AF 85mm F1.4 Lens for mirrorless cameras exceeded my expectations.

We didn't experience very much "hunting" at all, either in good or bad light, with the lens accurately focusing almost all of the time. It has a quiet focusing mechanism, too, which makes this lens well-suited to video recording. Still, even when we are limited to a bargain lens, none of us strive to take images with inferior quality. So either the lenses do a handshake and say what protocol they can cope or it is the extra 4 pins that are hardwired in a such a way that it tells the body to go over to EF protocol.

The best standpoint from which to appreciate the full view of a subject is the distance of the diagonal length of the subject frame. This wider angle is superior to standing closer at a 50 degree angle to get a more detailed view. Above: Move into the corners though and as you might expect, the modern optics of the two RF models easily out-perform the 30 year old EF 1.8.The Samyang 85mm F/1.4 Canon RF mount telephoto lens is the first 85mm prime lens with precision manual focus control to be available in Canon RF mount. It sports a new exterior design with a contemporary look that matches and handles well with Canon’s full frame mirrorless cameras. Distortion is so negligible it’s just not going to be an issue with real-world shooting, even with subjects exhibiting lots of straight edges or lines. Chromatic aberration is also very well managed, with only the tiniest amount of fringing evident along some high-contrast edges when the image is significantly enlarged. As with distortion, this isn’t going to be problematic with normal shooting (compared to test charts). I am new to the forum and also new to Canon EOS RP. I am currently looking for 85mm lens and I am debating between Canon EF 85mm 1.4 vs. Samyang 85mm 1.4 (If budget was not an issue, RF 85 1.2... but)
