About this deal

To cover all bases; breathability, temperature regulation, and hypoallergenic treatment have all been given high priority in the design of this pillow. I took out around four handfuls of cubes to hit my sleeping sweet spot – and after I'd found it, it's fair to say I was in heaven. The pillow is made of three particular layers, but two of those layers have a twin on the other side of the pillow, so there are really five layers.

When my Simba Hybrid Pillow arrived, I have to admit that I was skeptical. The cover looked weird. The blue cubes inside it made it seem more like a bean bag than a pillow. And overall, my gut was telling me this wasn’t going to give me a pleasant night’s sleep. It's certainly not for everyone, the Simba Hybrid Firm Pillow, thanks to its firmness and a price tag that can only be described as prohibitively high. In fact, I imagine the standard Hybrid Pillow will be a more popular product for the brand. But if you're looking for a hardcore headrest, you'll struggle to find a better bedtime companion than this. The fact is that these Simba Hybrid pillows are Marmite to many people: some people think that it is just expensive cut up bits of foam, but others report having the ‘best night sleep ever’. The box was larger than I thought it would be, but that said, when I opened it to dig out the Hybrid Pillow, it was also much more sizeable than I imagined and it looked pleasantly puffed-up. First impressions

Simba Hybrid Pillow Layers

Underneath the cover there are three layers. Of these layers, one of them can be customised (similarly to the Nectar pillow). The three layers that make up the pillow are: The pillow's two sides are made from different materials and this is where the space-age technology comes in. One side is constructed with cotton that's embedded with what Simba calls Stratos, which is inspired by the materials NASA uses to make spacesuits. It has excellent breathability and temperature regulation unparalleled by other standard memory foam pillows. It has great support unparalleled by other standard microfibre pillows. This is without a doubt one of the best pillows I have reviewed. Although it is also one of the most expensive pillows; it is very high quality.

Microfibre is famously soft. Memory foam is famously supportive. Put them together and what do you get? One darn soft yet supportive pillow! On the outside, the two pillows are largely identical. They both have non-identical sides: one is a breathable cotton cover, which Simba stresses is made using cotton from sources approved by the Better Cotton Initiative. Inside the zipped cotton outer cover is another zipped bag, which contains 640g of breathable and lightweight foam Nanocubes. This is where the bespoke element comes in. If you prefer a higher, firmer pillow, leave all the cubes in. To create a lower loft (or more medium feel), take out several handfuls of the cubes and store them in the supplied mesh bag. Our testers found a little experimentation was necessary to find out exactly how many cubes to take out or leave in but, to attain what is essentially a bespoke pillow, it’s worth trying different options. The Simba Hybrid Pillow contains both microfibre and memory foam fillings. It gives the best of both worlds. Simba Sleep clearly agrees. The pillow outer is machine washable at 40°C. Just remove the memory foam Nanocubes and pop it in your washing machine. What Size Is It?

But where it shines is in its ability to be tailored to suit your exact needs and preferences. The idea of customising the sleep experience is a surprisingly simple one, but it's a game-changer when you've tried it. For those of you who already have read the Simba Hybrid mattress review, there is no need to tell you that when it comes to designing their products, Simba do things differently. The Simba Hybrid pillow is no exception to this rule. The combination of the various layers makes for a very comfortable pillow indeed. Simba Hybrid Pillow: Composition It is a reasonably comfortable pillow, but a different type of comfort, compared to that offered by other brands. If you’ve not slept on a pillow made of cut up bits of foam before, you really have to try it to feel the differene (good or bad). Plenty of blue foam “nanocube” cubes here! The pillow is described as medium to firm, so if you are wanting a slimmer, softer pillow, remove around eight to ten handfuls of the Nanocubes®.

Experience a feeling of no other with Simba’s latest innovation. The uniquely engineered Stratos® cotton layer was inspired by astronauts for optimum temperature regulation. Infused with phase change technology that absorbs, releases and stores heat, you can maintain an ideal temperature so you’ll be able to get a cool, fresher night’s sleep. Have Simba Sleep engineered one pillow for all? I think they might have actually managed it. Undoubtedly, they’ve landed close to the mark. It feels utterly luxurious to sleep on – more comfortable than a memory foam pillow, with superior support to a feather-filled product. It's plump, squishy and truly comfortable. In an earlier version of the Simba Hybrid Pillow; this layer was made of Nanotubes. We’re not talking about nanoscience here. In this case, Nanotubes were tube shaped lumps of visco-elastic memory foam. Ideal for All Sleeping Positions. By both moulding and contouring to your body shape, and being able to add or remove Nanocubes, this pillow can be adjusted to suit all sleeping positions.

Well, comfort is very subjective, so it depends on the type of support that you prefer and that you are used to. Simba say that this pillow is quite firm, but I found it to be firmer than I expected, even with less nanocubes in.
