A 200-year-old volcanic-stone home just north-east of La Oliva has been sensitively restored as the Hotel Rural Mahoh (doubles from €60 B&B), with nine rustic rooms, a pool and a superb Canarian restaurant. The Avanti Lifestyle Hotel (doubles from €120) sits right on the coast in Corralejo, and if that’s too far to walk there’s a rooftop Jacuzzi from which to take in the sea view.
La Chalana in Puerto del Carmen – A local bar and restaurant in the old town of Puerto del Carmen. Lovely vibe and felt authentic. We just had drinks and a few tapas here. It was delicious and very reasonable. Who doesn’t love a game of crazy golf on holiday? We’re big fans of the game, seeking out courses wherever we are in the world! The Jurassic Kingdom course in Puerto del Carmen (on top of the shopping centre) was lots of fun. The holes were challenging enough that we didn’t race around it. Plus, the dinosaurs and special effects added to the entertainment! Jurassic Kingdom crazy golf is a great option if you’re looking for things to do in Puerto del Carmen Visit Pueblo Marinero in Costa Teguise One of the island’s longest established resorts, Costa Teguise was first developed in the 1970's under the aegis of César Manrique and was purpose built as a tourist resort from the start. Another big reason to visit Haria is to take in the views of the Valley of a Thousand Palms. In reality, there aren’t 1000, but this is the greenest area of Lanzarote. While you’ll see the palm-filled oasis as you wander the town, some of the best views are from the LZ10 as you approach from the north. Outside the main resorts, you can choose to stay in the bustling capital, Arrecife, full of local flavour, or head for one of the pretty whitewashed villages inland or on the coast, where fincas and private rentals are on offer.Just inland, pastel-painted La Laguna is Tenerife’s prettiest town; its centre bursts with historical, Canarian-style mansions. There’s more classic architecture over in La Orotava (also known for its crafts), near the attractive beach resort of Puerto de la Cruz while further along the northern coastline you’ll reach peaceful, historic Garachico, with its attractive sea pools. If you want to see the town at its liveliest, visit on a Sunday between 9am and 2pm when Teguise Market takes place. This isn’t a small market like in Haria, it’s large with lots of stalls, and a huge range of items for sale. You’ll find everything from cheap souvenir t-shirts to fine jewellery. There are several food stands too, but to be honest they didn’t look great unless you’re looking for a hot dog or an English breakfast! Lunch at Cantina Restaurant in Teguise was a highlight Bogovante in El Golfo – We never made it here for food, but so many people recommended the seafood rice! It’s a special spot too, right on the water. Playa Grande: The busiest beach, located on the main strip, complete with pedalos and sun beds, is Puerto del Carmen’s raison d’etre. Once the best beach on the island, the sand quality has unfortunately become quite degraded in recent years. Nevertheless its shallow waters mean that it offers some of the warmest sea temperatures and best bathing conditions on the island. However, La Gomera’s hands-down highlight is the magical, misty Parque Nacional de Garajonay, whose elevated, Unesco-protected laurisilva forests conceal some of the Canaries’ most rewarding walking paths. A fabulous route through the 40 sq km park meanders down the Hermigua valley from the Alto de Garajonay (1,484m).
