About this deal

As mentioned, with 10 cooking functions Breville the Smart Oven Air Fryer has plenty to offer. Its pizza setting, for example, is ideal for Pizza Fridays, while a roast feature delivers the same benefits of a convection oven, albeit in a smaller 22-liter capacity. There’s even a toast setting that can be used to get breakfast ready in minutes. Quality of food: both air fryers and toaster ovens promise to cook your favorite dishes to perfection. Food should be perfectly crisped and cooked just as well – if not better –as if it had spent time in a "proper" oven vs an air fryer. Sage have made cooking in the Smart Oven Pro more efficient and even with Element IQ Technology. Five independent, quartz heating elements move power around the oven to where it is most needed. Each element adjusts itself automatically for the setting you choose, delivering the right temperature at the right time to ensure perfect results. Much like a standard oven, the air fryer won’t turn off if you open its door half-way through a cooking cycle. You’ll need to take care when handling the trays and shaking the contents of the basket mid-way through cooking, too. When it comes to noise, the Smart Oven Air Fryer is fairly quiet in operation – humming away at an average 57dB in use, as measured by our Decibel Meter App.

After much testing, our Ecommerce Editor, Molly Cleary, gave Tucci's favourite Sage oven a glowing five-star rating in her Sage Smart Oven Air Fryer review and can confidently confirm that this kitchen appliance lives up to the hype. She even says it is 'worth its weight in gold'. What I did like about the design was a simple yet effective mechanism. Magnets in the door mean that when the oven is opened, it pulls the wire shelf with it, so contents are easier to retrieve. However, this only works when the shelf is in the middle position, which is a shame. Another handy feature is that the shelf positions for different presets are printed on the exterior of the door, so you don’t need to keep the instructions to hand. Performance For starters, this can be useful, but once we were used to the air fryer, we found it easier to skip the app and use the controls on the front. If you've got the space and are looking for a cost-efficient way to trim down the amount of time you spend in front of your oven, yes. We also look at other important factors like ease of use and key features. The number of drawers and how much they can hold are crucial details for those cooking for large households, as is the physical size of the appliance for anyone frying with limited counter space.Heating elements: An air fryer is a convection oven that circulates hot air throughout the appliance. A toaster oven will typically have two heating elements, one at the top and one at the bottom of the appliance. To test the heat distribution we baked a tray of Madeleines. We were impressed with the Cuisinart Air Fryer Mini Oven as the cakes cooked evenly: golden on top with a crisp base. Much like a conventional oven the Cuisinart Air Fryer Mini Oven has dual heating elements at both the top and the bottom. Meaning that the heat is consistent throughout. Typically air fryers have a single heating element paired with a powerful fan. This model also has the addition of a fan meaning that heat is evenly circulated. The design means that the Cuisinart Air Fryer Mini Oven can perform a range of cooking methods including grilling and air frying. Ease of maintenance: Cleaning an air fryer or toaster oven is typically a very easy task and therefore minimal effort to look after.

It’s quite a beast, but if you use an air fryer all of the time, cook large portions (or for lots of people) and want quality results each time, then there’s nothing better than this model. Most air fryers tend to look a lot like deep fat fryers, but the Sage the Smart Oven Air Fry looks a lot like a microwave oven. This design lets you spread out food, so that it’s evenly cooked, rather than having to shake food as you do in an air fryer. This sizeable cooker can air fry, grill, pressure cook, steam and more. Results across the board are fantastic, but you’ll need to ask yourself whether you realistically need this much cooking space and number of functions before you buy it.More expensive air fryers can cook faster and more evenly, but for the price, the Salter Aerogrill is hard to beat, adding versatility with its grill.

If you’ll just be using the air fryer function most often, this probably isn’t the right appliance for you – compared to upright models, it’s bulky, needs more cleaning and has a much higher price than most. That said, it’s great for families, entertaining and batch cookers who never have enough oven space.Combining and air fryer and grill in one appliance makes a lot of sense: it doubles up of the number of uses and, for the grill in particular, keeps smoke and smells inside the appliance. Mostly, products like this are very expensive, but the Salter Aerogrill is cheaper than a lot of air-fryer only cookers. You can cook individually, use the same setting on both drawers or, cleverly, use different settings on each drawer but have them synchronise to finish at the same time. There are options to air fry, max crisp (a 240C turbo setting), roast, reheat, dehydrate or bake. We were also impressed by the 'toast' function; as simple as it sounds, nailing the just-right balance when cooking toast can be a struggle for some conventional toasters. However, the Smart Oven managed two slices of perfectly browned, crunchy toast in about two minutes flat, free from burnt edges or caught-in-the-toaster crusts.

Basket style with heating elements: tall, slim air-fryers feature a main unit with heating elements and fans. These have slide-out baskets or trays that slot into place inside. As they tend to have a smaller cooking area than oven-style fryers, in testing we found even results were more likely if the cooking was paused occasionally to rearrange or toss the food around. Some fryers will cut out automatically when you do this, some will need to be paused if you want accurate timings. Every air fryer on this list has been rigorously tested in real-world settings. Our reviewers measure the performance of an air fryer by examining how well the appliance cooks a range of foods, from chips and frozen hash browns to meat and more. And while the Ninja is so easy to clean, the Sage can be a real struggle, especially due to the glass door and the different inserts, which seem to hold grease like nothing else. What makes this product so good is its versatility. As well as Speedi meals, it can also act as a slow cooker, and it can sear food with the lid open. That’s handy for starting ingredients off before slow cooking, or for finishing meals: I cooked rice, and then added some pre-cooked beef strips, onions and peppers, sautéing the food to get it piping hot.
