About this deal

The Woburn 2 is loud in all senses of the world, with a bold appearance that’s going to stand out in any room. This is most obvious whilst listening to largely electronic music, where low-frequency elements tend to be discrete and uniform. For all its bass weight, the Woburn isn’t on a par with the Sonos in terms of sub-bass delivery either. The frequencies are present, but they’re not projected with the same verve. This sub-bass performance isn’t a surprise, given the very conventional driver array used here. Serving the best cuisine from across the Mediterranean including French, Spanish, Italian, Greek and Moroccan food enjoy everything from chargrilled steaks, kebabs, fresh fish and seafood, pizza, pasta and paella. Plus, we also have dedicated gluten free and vegan menus, afternoon tea and two children’s menus so there’s something for everyone. With great value offers and discounts available throughout the week, Ego at The Flying Fox, Woburn is the perfect restaurant for everything from a Birthday celebration, to a family gathering to a romantic meal for two. Where this particular speaker really excels though is its ability to provide those sensations without needing to be turned up to 11. This means you can enjoy it whenever you want, whether you live in a converted barn or a terraced house, you can still be enveloped in sound.

Verdict – The Woburn 3 is a bit lighter, but both are too similar to choose a definitive winner. They are great-looking speakers if the style is appealing to you. The Woburn 2 is a beautiful piece of equipment, though it is fairly straightforward. On the top panel menu you get a number of different control options; volume, bass, and treble control knobs, a play/pause button, a stylish power switch, and a source button. The app offers further sound customization should you choose to adjust it. These are needed because otherwise the Marshall Woburn II would have to use motorised controls to keep up with any volume changes made via your phone. That sounds neat, but would also likely be too expensive to implement. To try out this Bluetooth goliath, we paired our phone and opened up the Spotify app. Selecting Queen's Greatest Hits, we lined up You're My Best Friend and hit play. We've often found that the wooden cabinet construction of Marshall's speakers lends itself to a warm, natural sound, so we weren't surprised to hear those opening Wurlitzer electric piano chords ooze out of the grille like treacle.

All the way to 11

The Marshall Woburn II has four drivers and a pair of big bass ports on its rear. There are two large 5.25-inch cones for the bass, and two 1-inch ones for the higher frequencies. This is similar to the Stanmore II’s arrangement, but with a second subwoofer for reinforced bass.

There’s also extra depth and timbre to mid-range tones; guitars sound especially brilliant (they couldn’t not, could they?) while vocal reproduction is incredibly realistic. If you close your eyes you can almost imagine the singer in the room with you. Leather texture vinyl covers the sides of the unit, and upfront is a grey fabric grille. The Marshall logo is significant, but cast in a soft gold rather than the stark white of most Marshall amps.

Any downsides?

There’s a new speaker array in the Woburn 3, which features a three-way driver system (Woburn 1 and 2 only were only two-way) including a 90w sub with a rear port, two 15w mids and two 15w tweeters. This is supposed to give a richer, more even tone and help the Woburn 3 project further into the corners of your room. Marshall Woburn 3: what’s the story with the design? One thing folks can never say about Marshall is that their speakers are ugly. The Marshall Woburn, Stanmore, and Acton speakers are all brilliantly made and a pleasure to behold. The material feels luxurious and resilient while also being comfortable to the touch and the exterior of the speaker looks like it was meant for the edge of a stage. During Don't Stop Me Now, the Woburn II Bluetooth speaker's versatility really starts to shine, the speaker delivering Freddie Mercury's operatic meandering with cleanliness and verve. Even at high volumes (and this thing gets very loud), the speaker just about manages to hold things together, with only the faintest hint of deterioration. As the song drew to its breathless climax, it was easy to see why Marshall has been the preferred choice of stage musicians for the past six decades. Marshall Woburn II review: The alternatives And that’s exactly what this latest iteration of its Woburn home speaker promises over its predecessor (the Woburn 2), with an extra pair of cones to help fill the tonal gap between bass and treble, and a wider soundstage for true room-filling volume.
