About this deal

Consumers love portability mixed with a choice of adorable color combinations, especially when the user interface is silky smooth and easy to understand. The shoulder buttons and the rounded, long aesthetic make the handheld a pleasure to play on for long periods of time, and although there’s not every retro game to choose from because of decline licensing agreements, there’s still many to choose from to keep you occupied. What makes the RG280V so great is the small, portable form factor teamed up with a large 2.8″ display with a glass cover. Version) 7000mAh battery with 18W fast charging, (6+128G/8+256G Version) 7000mAh battery with 35W fast charging. It comes in two editions, the “VS” version which is Linux only and comes with 1GB RAM, but the best of the bunch is the original “RG353V” which features Linux/Android OS, 2GB’s RAM and a touch screen display.

But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows because the build quality is a little sub-par and the operating system used is incredibly poor, to a point where it reminded us of Windows 98. The factory will receive the motherboard and related materials for the patch tomorrow, or the day after. We will take photos for everyone, and the engineer machine is expected to interview before the end of the month. It’s the newer version of the RG350P, which you will see is 3rd in our list. The RG351P was released in October 2020 and can power everything up to your average N64 game. We say average because we start to see a dip in performance when we play large N64 games like GoldenEye etc. The RG405M features a a Unisoc T618 2ghz CPU, a MaliG52 GPU, 4GB’s RAM, a 4” IPS display with a resolution of 640 x 480, 4500mah Battery, Wifi and Bluetooth 5.0.

The KT-R1 features LPDDR4 memory and UFS 2.2 storage, support for WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2, a fan for active cooling as well as a heat sink, stereo front-facing speakers, dual vibration motors, dual microphones, a USB Type-C port and microSD card reader, and a 5,000 mAh battery that The Phawx says is good for six to ten hours, depending on usage.

With ahistory of making some pretty good handhelds, this one excites us, not only because they’ll have a team working on it, but because it’s running the P60 chip, which should “on paper” be able to emulate the best Gamecube games very well. For those of you that want something a bit more premium, as of February 2020, the new RG350M, a metal variant of the RG350 was released. It is now, officially, our favourite Chinese handheld EVER. Recently the developer has came out on a Discord server dedicated to handhelds stating that the KT R1 is soon to begin production. This product shows just how much this niche market demands a decent handheld, and their sales are going through the roof, for good reason. You can probably find it cheaper nowadays too, as the newer version the RG351P has now been released. The only downfall with this is that it will be a little complicated for beginners to understand and setup. We’re hoping this comes “playable” out of the box and that we don’t have to mess around with the settings and button mappings for hours on end.

The RG350 was released in October 2019 and received most of its attention for the ability to play PS1 ROMs near perfectly all while having superb build quality. It features a 4.7″ Touchscreen HD display, a T618 CPU, Mali G52 GPU, 4GB of RAM, 5000MAH’s of battery, WiFi and runs on Android 11. Those chinese brands can produce for a much lower price and they also don’t suffer as great from a bad image from bad manufactured hardware which means they produce for a much smaller price and therefore a much smaller profit is big enough for them. Why you’d choose this over any of the bigger ones is simply, it’s cheaper and far more portable making it a superb gameboy emulator, or for those that don’t mind playing on small handhelds. For those that don’t know, ANBERNIC create some of the best retro handhelds on the market, and their RG351V was by far one of their best products, and in fact it is probably the best affordable vertical handheld emulator on the market to this day. The Miyoo Mini + is a new handheld that release in March 2023, and is the big brother of the original Miyoo Mini which is number one on this list. Yes, you can modify this yourself and load up a different version of Android but for an average consumer this thing is still a little clunky and needs some TLC. The console will initially run Android 9.0 with Vulkan drivers for 3D graphics acceleration, but if the device performs well, and battery life is not a disaster, we should certainly see Linux-based firmware such Batocera.Linux, Lakka, RetroArch, etc… will certainly be ported to those platforms.

As soon as we pulled the handheld out of the box it felt as if it was meant to be in our best retro handhelds list. The small nature of it, alongside the subtle Gameboy DMG features makes it feel like a genuine Nintendo Gameboy Mini. But now, 9 months later they released this new handheld, with a few minor updates. These minor updates from the original RG350 makes this handheld feel incredibly polished. It’s rumoured to have a 4.5” touchscreen display, up to 8GB’s of RAM, a 5000mah battery capacity, wifi, bluetooth and Android 10.
