About this deal

From seasonal gins to limited-edition vodkas, the North East is quietly going about the business of producing a range of spirits that rival the very best. We might be some time off being able to sample the Northumbrian Single Malt from what is to be Northumberland's first commercial whisky distillery but it surely will be worth the wait.

The Herbal Gin Company Limited is a brewery company that specialises in gin. Brewing high-quality spirits, they concoct special herbal gins that are flavourful and rich to the taste. Crafted to perfection, they want to share to the public the different gin product that they have. Using the finest ingredients from citrus, botanicals to raspberry, vanilla and other herbal mixes, you can certainly taste the difference that only they can deliver. The gin company, founded by Harry Vaulkhard in 2013, has its home at city bar-restaurant Bealim House where the gin distillery is described as Newcastle's first: "the city’s only working in-house gin still" says the pub which also hosts tasting events. The Northumberland Gin Company currently produces one handcrafted gin – Hexham Premier Cru – and is run and owned by four friends Peter, Jane, Ian and Deb, with a love for gin – collectively known as the Gin Twins. Making high-quality small batch gin, they plan to grow the Hexham brand to introduce new full strength gin infusions. The company also makes gin-based fruit liqueurs including lime and ginger, raspberry and vanilla, and rhubarb and strawberry. There's also a Laidly Wyrm Gin in the company's Northern Fables Collection, inspired by an ancient tale from Bamburgh Castle. Hexham Premier Cru Gin After being distilled in a 300-litre copper still named Florence, in a Grade-III listed building overlooking the stunning Malton landscape, a beautifully-smooth and balanced gin is produced. Featuring 11 fine quality botanicals (including juniper, green pepper, rosemary, hibiscus and citrus) all carefully selected due to their distinct flavours. Immerse yourself in the cosy ambiance of W.C Gin Closet, designed to provide a respite from the bustling city outside. Whether you're seeking a quiet evening with friends or a romantic date night, our intimate space is the ideal setting. It’s been 37℃ this week so this went down like pop. I finished it with lemon but I do think even harsher pink grapefruit would have been great. Like this a lot!

Founded in 1914, the company started out with a uniquely blended 'legendary dark rum', said to be a favourite amongst sailors and fisherman in the North East. It was taken over by the Harry Hotspur Holdings group in 2013 and business now takes in a full range of rums and liqueurs. There's now also a Lindisfarne Gin and a resurrected 1950s Glen Aln Whisky. This independent Durham based distillery, which produces hand-crafted premium spirits with a focus on small-batch gins and nature at its heart, was founded by Sunderland-born Scott Wilson-Laing in 2019 with crowdfunding help and success rapidly followed, with the debut 1st Edition gin an award-winning hit. From a summery strawberries and cream-flavour Picnic Gin to a winter-warmer Fireside Gin, the pioneers are forever experimenting beyond their core range of Northern Dry Gin (43.2%) and Old Tom Gin - plus there's a Graceful Vodka too - which are all produced in a 500-litre still called Gracie. And the team cleverly keep people interested with limited-time-only, one-batch newcomers - such as Cherry and Basil - alongside its one-off range, The Rarities. Keep up to speed here with what's on offer. Northumberland Gin Company When whalers left the coast of Whitby, the local fishermen became acquired to the taste of Jenever, a spirit introduced to them by the Dutch specialists to keep them warm out at sea. With the gin prohibition in full swing on land, the Whitby fishermen smuggled the ingredients ashore to keep the spirit alive, and now Whitby Distillery are bringing us our very own Jenever.

We tend to know our beers, and are proud of our range of top local breweries, but what about other boozy treats? We have the region's only winery - Laneberg Wine in Gateshead - which is a hidden treasure in Team Valley where it takes English grapes and then crushes, processes and bottles at its Team Valley plant to produce award-winning wonders. Distilled in small batches using the same smuggled ingredients including juniper, citrus and liquorice root, as well as local products including moorland heather flowers, honey and sugar kelp. They produce quality gin in a single pass of the still, it’s refreshing on the tongue, with a lasting finish symbolic of its origins in the North Sea – watch out for its A beautifully well balanced and smooth-tasting gin boasting a delicate juniper flavour with citrusy notes. In one sip, you can identify crisp, fresh and sweet characteristics as well as smooth, warm and bitter notes.Tyne Bank Brewery & Tap Room was founded by Julia Austin in 2011. Inspired by the different brewery in the West Coast of America, she decided to create her own distillery to brew beers and craft ales. Offering a wide array of beers with different taste and strength, you can certainly find the best one that will suit your distinct taste and style. They offer different beers that are available either in bottles, cans, casks and taps. Fill a glass with lots of chunky ice and add 50ml of Whitby Gin. Pair with 150ml of Mediterranean Fever-Tree tonic and garnish with pink grapefruit and a sprig of rosemary. HEXHAM GIN Explore an extensive collection of gins, curated from every corner of the world. From classic London dry gins to unique artisanal blends, we offer an extraordinary selection that will cater to every gin lover's palate. Drawing its inspiration from ancient history and tradition, Hadrian’s Wall Gin is handcrafted in Northumberland. Infused with traditional Roman herbs and botanicals including coriander – they use a variation of seeds synonymous with Roman life during the occupation of the wall. As well as chamomile, a botanical vital in providing sweet undertones, there are floral notes, and mint which contributes to its oriental flavour. When all of the botanicals come together, they provide a truly fragrant finish.

Recommended serve: Durham Gin:Fevertree tonic (I like the light tonic) in a 3:1 ratio w/ strawberry garnishAs with all good things, patience is the key to Newcastle Gin. It takes over 72 hours to create a light floral gin using a combination of age-old distilling techniques, including maceration and vapour infusion through a 450-litre traditional copper pot still. They even use Newcastle City water to take down the final new spirit from 85 percent to a strong (but hearty) 43 percent. Distilled with nine botanicals, juniper, sumac, orange peel, hibiscus, rose petals, coriander and three secret ingredients that can’t be revealed. WC’s Gin Closet was first imagined in 2018, after the building had sat vacant for a decade due to closures of public conveniences across the city - so we decided to put another historic Georgian building to good use, creating a home for Gin lovers of all varieties!
