About this deal

At over 30cm, the HT-A9’s speakers are taller than most soundbar surrounds, but Sony has tried to make the design as understated as possible. The front and top faces are covered in a matte perforated grille while the rear of each unit is flattened off, allowing them to sit flush against walls, and there is a concealed hook for easy rigging. The positioning and focus of the speakers is flexible but they should maintain a direct line of sight to the listening position and the ceiling, so placing them in recessed cabinets or shelves should be avoided. This wireless subwoofer is designed specifically to pair with Sony’s soundbars. These include HT-A7000, HT-A5000, and HT-A9. It upgrades your home theater by offering you a cinematic sound experience.

I’ll add the rear speakers at some point when they go on sale, but at the moment I couldn’t really be happier with it.

Specifications

If you also want to conjure up a visit, combining the HT-A7000 with either the Sony SA-SW5 or Sony SA-SW3 wireless subwoofers and/or the Sony SA-RS3S wireless rear speakers is easy. Just plug in and position the speakers, power them on, and their indicator lights will flash green until the soundbar automatically recognizes them. Then you can re-run the room configuration process with the additional speakers connected. The soundbar’s remote has dedicated volume buttons for both the rear speakers and the subwoofer, so you can find the right mix for your taste. Two compatible subs let you augment the soundbar to summon-the-neighbors levels of rumble. So, who should buy the Sony HT-A7000 soundbar? But the most impressive aspects of Sony’s design lie within, where the virtual 7.1.2 soundbar’s 11 powered speaker channels deliver 500W of total output across five front-facing speakers, two up-firing speakers, two “beam” tweeters on the sides, and an internal dual-channel subwoofer. The rectangular shape of X-Balanced Speaker Units makes that subbass punchier, vocals clearer, and distortion lower, according to Sony’s claims. It may be just one unit but the HT-A7000 is an incredibly weighty 8.7kg and, at 8cm high, it’s taller than most, only just sneaking under the Sony A80J OLED TV that we test it with.

Converted to Test Bench 1.1. With this update, we've added a Mounting test and added information about Subwoofer Output, Spotify Connect, and Microphone Mute.

Plus, you can also do it manually if you want. It takes seconds to set up and connect. Once it is sorted, you are now able to enjoy the unmatchable bass experience of the Bluetooth subwoofer. Sony SA-SW5 300W Wireless Subwoofer Cons 1. Not a Standalone Device The Samsung Q990 on the other hand is another story. Obviously the Samsung has a sub-woofer and rear speakers, so it has the advantage of separating sound. I never tested just the soundbar alone. The sound really seems to surround you, very immersive, crisp, great bass (I had to turn down the sub to -2), the Adaptive sound did an amazing job of separating all around the living room and kitchen area to the point where it made me want to re-listen to some of my favourite music for the joy of it. Take your compatible* Sony soundbar or home cinema system to new a new bass dimension, with the Sony SA-SW5 wireless subwoofer. A wireless subwoofer means that it requires no wires or cables to connect with the soundbar or other devices. However, that does not prevent its power source. You will still need a power cable to connect and start the device. Is it necessary to buy a subwoofer? The punchiness of this sub makes it very fatiguing for certain movies and games. I had to turn the SW3 way down while playing the Dead Space remake on PS5 because Issac’s footsteps and the doors opening were just too intense.

I wanted to improve my listening experience, my existing speakers were average quality for a medium size room, but they didn't wow me. I wasn't so interested in Atmos effects as I have a very odd shaped room with one side of the soundbar close to a wall, plus a vaulted ceiling. Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 28th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.)Sony has opted to use a combination of driver placement and psychoacoustic techniques to enhance the width and height of the soundstage whether you’re watching immersive content or not, and it works very well. Alongside the upward drivers, there’s the company’s Vertical Surround Engine (VSE), which up-mixes standard content to make use of the height channels. But more key to the A7000’s overall performance are the wide-spaced beam tweeters, which channel audio through a series of flute-like chambers, and Sony’s S-Force Front Surround Technology, which is engaged when the ‘Cinema’ and ‘Standard’ sound modes are selected.

I have owned both the Sony A7000 and the Samsung Q990. I was looking for something as an improvement over an old Sony STR-DN1030 and a pair of small bookshelf speakers (Q-Acoustics 2020), I didn't have the space for bigger speakers up front, or cabled speakers anywhere else.Let’s look at the features of the wireless subwoofer to provide a clearer picture. 1. Easy to Set up and Use That said, it is pretty nicely balanced. I would hope for firmware updates to add more detail and control here later though. Sony’s A9 speaker system redefines accessible home cinema sound with an innovative, immersive and flexible solution.” ’What Hi-Fi?’ – 5 Star review. The HT-A7000 comes with a remote control, power cable, and an HDMI cable—enough to get you up and running by connecting the soundbar’s HDMI out to your TV’s HDMI eARC/ARC input. The two HDMI inputs incorporate your streaming media box, game console, Blu-ray player, or other components.
