About this deal

As if the 65C845K hasn’t already done enough to look insanely good value, its pictures are also for the most part exceptionally crisp and detailed. This is every inch a 4K experience, and one that holds up reasonably if not spectacularly well, when there’s lots of motion in a scene. Provided, anyway, you’ve toned down the TV’s motion processing system from its messy, unnatural looking default 10 level to its slightly juddery but overall cleaner and more cinematic three or four level. The TCL C641K QLED television is available in a variety of size options, catering to different room sizes and viewing preferences. Depending on the model, you can typically find the television in sizes ranging from 43 inches to 75 inches or even larger. Choosing the right size for your needs depends on the viewing distance, room layout, and personal preferences. It’s important to consider the space available and ensure that the chosen size offers an immersive and comfortable viewing experience. With the TCL C641K’s range of size options, you can find the perfect fit for your home entertainment setup. 4K Resolution

Continuing the 65C845K’s big specs/little price game is a claimed 2000 nits of brightness. This would be another unprecedented figure for such an affordable 65-inch TV, but actually my own measurements of more than 2,200 nits on a 10% HDR window across multiple presets show TCL’s claims to actually be conservative. Even high-end (and so far more expensive) Samsung and Sony models struggle to get beyond that. All the main video streaming apps are on offer, including Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+, Now, YouTube, Google Play, and all the UK TV catch-up services. There’s also support for resolutions up to 4K, along with HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and DTS audio where available. It is Alexa-compatible, but as a Google TV it’ll clearly work best with Google Assistant, especially as the C845 has this capability built-in, with microphones both on the TV and available on the remote by pressing the key with Google’s meaningless coloured symbols on it. Experience the true magic of colors and brightness with the TCL C841K. With HDR 2000 nits, this television reveals hidden details even in the brightest or darkest scenes, making every moment count. And that’s not all. Quantum Dot technology unleashes a spectrum of over a billion colors, ensuring that every image is a vivid masterpiece. Dive into a world where colors pop, details astonish, and your favorite content comes to life like never before. Illuminating Detail: Full Array Local Dimming in Action The TCL C845 is an attractive TV, with a bezel-less frame around the outer edge of the screen, and reasonably solid construction. The panel is slim at the top but widens at the bottom to accommodate the Onkyo sound system. The 55in model measures 1225 x 72 716mm (WDH) without its stand and weighs in at a hefty 18.4kg with it.The C81 QLED’s sound is mostly impressive for such an affordable TV. The soundbar delivers a large soundstage with a genuine sense of verticality that sits well with the TV’s built-in Dolby Atmos decoding. This doesn’t mean you actually hear overhead effects, but you do get a wall of sound that at least feels as tall as the TV.

This suggests that the C81 QLED’s problems with standard HDR10 are down to its internal tone mapping – the processing it uses to ‘map’ HDR’s potential to the screen’s actual capabilities. While it’s unfortunate that the TV’s initial picture presets pump out unrealistic levels of brightness and colour with HDR10 sources that go far beyond what the screen can actually handle, there are things you can do to salvage the situation. The new TV is Calman-ready for professional calibration, and also supports 3D LUT calibration, enabling other third-party systems, including LightIllusion's ColourSpace; TCL Australia confirms to us that the C845 is 'ColourSpace Integrated'.I also like the way TCL has integrated the TV’s set-up menus alongside the Android TV interface. It’s definitely more straightforward to negotiate than the Android implementation of Sony’s latest TVs.

The C845K delivers outstanding sharpness and clarity with native 4K sources, and while its motion handling with 24p sources isn’t quite as refined and natural with or without processing active as the best rivals, it is fairly free from unwanted side effects and still looks natural enough to leave you immersed in what you are watching. This fact does bring us quite early on to the C845K’s biggest picture weakness, though. Namely, a slightly cloudy look that can sometimes appear with shots and scenes that contain a bold mixture of very bright and very dark content, as the local light controls wrestle with achieving the best balance of local contrast and HDR brightness.

TCL C845 Comparison Testing

TCL’s televisions can differ by market, especially between UK/Europe and the models that appear in the US and Australia. This year we gather that the European and UK versions of the C835 will be technically identical (the previous C825 had a key difference in the UK), while Australia got to meet the new range first, with the C835 range officially available from 1 June 2022. The Micro Dimming feature manages to inject a little more contrast into regular or bright HDR images, too, although it can feel a bit forced if you go beyond its Low setting. We had very few problems achieving a spectacular picture quality from the TCL C835, whether streaming 4K HDR from its own Google apps or playing via HDMI from an AppleTV 4K or UHD Blu-ray player. There are any number of apps in the Google Play store for streaming music, but also Bluetooth (and Chromecast and AirPlay) for streaming music to the TV. Setting up

Unfortunately, options for reducing its impact are limited. The Micro Dimming feature that analyses the image on a fine enough level to deliver enhanced local contrast didn’t make much difference. The dynamic contrast feature that adjusts contrast automatically in response to image content improved the clouding a touch, but introduced lots of brightness instability. Gamers thinking the C845K’s startling spec-to-price ratio might make it an exciting potential gaming monitor will be pleased to hear that it uses a 120Hz panel, while two of its four HDMI ports are capable of receiving 4K/120Hz feeds from the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and sufficiently high-spec PCs. In fact, the screen is even capable of handling 144Hz PC titles. It offers all the current HDR and audio formats and produces a decent image within the TV's capabilities, that will please the vast majority of general users. With TVs to suit a wide range of budgets, TCL is taking the UK market very seriously, rattling its sabre at well-established elites of the industry such as Samsung and LG. The resulting sound quality is genuinely good for a modern TV, and all that power combined with some decent speakers means the C845 can go loud without distorting or losing composure. There’s some decent stereo separation and a pleasing scale to the delivery that makes films sound more cinematic and games more immersive without compromising the audio’s balance. The initials stand for The Creative Life and the state-owned Chinese manufacturer typically targets the affordable end of the TV market, though it nevertheless employs some serious technology to rival some of the bigger brands. The TCL C641K QLED television offers a range of features and impressive performance, making it a compelling choice for home entertainment. With its QLED display, the television delivers vibrant colors, sharp images, and excellent contrast. The inclusion of HDR technology further enhances the visual experience. The smart features and intuitive interface provide convenient access to a wide range of apps and streaming services. The multiple connectivity options ensure compatibility with various devices. Additionally, the sleek design adds a modern touch to any living space.
