The left-channel speaker weighs 10.2 pounds. The only connectors on its rear panel are a pair of binding posts that accept bare wire, banana plugs, or spade lugs -- the left-channel LN01A looks like, and is, a conventional passive two-way minimonitor. Triangle AIO TWIN Speakers is the latest system from Triangle Electroacoustique, the French specialist for loudspeaker systems. The fact that this is once again a compact, versatile active loudspeaker system shows that the French are consistently trying to expand their target group.

Using my iPhone, I tapped into my Tidal playlist and selected Glory to the Day by the late Jesse Winchester, and was anchored in my listening chair by the Elara’s musically communicative nature. Triangle’s LN01A active HiFi speakers exemplify the benefits of clever design. With built-in amplification, they offer a clean and straightforward setup, eliminating the clutter of additional equipment and cables. Their elegant design and versatile connectivity options, including phono stage support, cater to vinyl audio enthusiasts, especially those who have ‘lapsed’. The LN01A set embodies a true plug-and-play mentality. Its large array of available inputs include phono, coaxial, optical and RCA connectors, as well as a dedicated subwoofer output for extending the low end. Though manufactured in China, the Elara LN01A is designed in France, so I thought I’d start with a staple of the French orchestral repertoire: Ravel’s La Valse, in a concert recording by Les Siècles under the direction of François-Xavier Roth (24-bit/44.1kHz FLAC, Harmonia Mundi/Qobuz). Based in France, Les Siècles specializes in late romantic and early modernist classical music, using instruments and performance practices typical of those eras.

The Triangle AIO TWIN Speakers are active two-way systems that use a 25 mm tweeter in combination with a 13 cm low-mid driver and a rear-firing bass reflex system. They are driven by Class D amplifier modules with a power output of two times 50 watts. The frequency response that can be covered with this solution is specified as 56 Hz up to 22 kHz. The left channel serves as the primary speaker, and houses the single 120Wpc amplifier that powers both speakers.

As my wife remarked, these little speakers have plenty of soul saying: “They appeal to the heart and not the head.’’ They're more interested in flagging the subtle, aching inflections of his delivery, and the textures and low-level dynamics of instruments, than the power behind them. Verdict In conclusion, the Triangle LN01A speakers are a compelling option for anyone seeking a powerful and refined active HiFi system, with less boxes taking up space. Triangle supplies a remote control but provides a volume knob on the rear of the right speaker. This knob also works as an input selector switch but one that must be pressed to move through the inputs.
