I can't highlight how much I love seeing Chris Riddell's illustrations, they are so beautiful and really captures the characters and scenes that Francesca has created, although I wish there were more sprinkled throughout, but then again I'm just a big fan of his work. The plot has a good dose of adventure and magic, friendships and sibling relationships, whilst also dealing with loss, sacrifice and death (with a few gruesome bits but it made the story more substantial). There were some real morals to the story without being too heavy for young readers. When the girls escape from a boring afternoon with Grandma into the teahouse gardens, they find a door in a giant tree trunk and enter the magical Kingdom of Yaroslav. To account for Daylight Saving Time (DST), add 1 hour to the calculation in the months that DST is in place at your location. This was one cute, little MG fantasy. Right from the title to the very plot, this beautiful story is quite enough to satiate one's appetite for more magical adventures and lost realms and kingdoms. Gibbons, who worked as a copywriter at a marketing agency before leaving to focus on her career as a children’s author, added: “Being published by HarperCollins and working with Chris Riddell is a dream come true – not just for grown-up Fran, but for my 12-year-old self. The fight won’t really go on for too long and after dealing a bit of damage, we’ll be at the end of the fight/ Suddenly, they are trapped and it’s all Marie’s fault. This isnt Imogen and Maire's first time exploring beyond the realms of Earth this time though they are joined by the skeptical step father. Their journey begins with a magical moth and a skret but is soon left behind only to be greeted by an unusual witch, is she young or is she old? Partnered with the witch is an uptight wanna be queen. Upon hearing the witches prophecy that she will one day be queen and that Maria is somehow linked to that prophecy Anneshka sneaks away from the group with an unwilling Maria turning Imogen's world upside down. Imogen seeks out the the help of some her old friends but what they they find along the way is where the true magic of the story lies.

Se molte domande hanno trovato risposta, però, altre ci lasciano in attesa di una prossima nuova avventura. Non vedo l'ora di scoprirla. Imogen and her little sister Marie are not perfect children. They fight and yell, and are rude and obnoxious to each other, to their mum and to their grandmother. These sisters, who become the heroes of the story, are introduced as rather tiresome and disagreeable characters. It's been a while since I have enjoyed a book so much. It reminded me a lot of Philip Pullman's Northern Lights trilogy.
