Armin Arlelt - Mikasa is a very close friend of Armin's. She frequently helped Eren fend off the older boys who bullied him when they were children. Annie laments that Armin is now looking at her differently, before praising him for having cornered her. Annie is unable to answer, and instead confirms her identity stating that her gamble has only just begun. Mikasa is among the Scouts that meet with an ambassador from the nation of Hizuru named Kiyomi Azumabito. At a meeting between the two parties, Kiyomi displays the crest of the Azumabito clan and Mikasa is shaken to see it is the same as the tattoo on her wrist. After some prompting by Eren, Mikasa shares it, saying that her mother gave it to her as a girl and to pass it down to her children later on.After gaining full control of the Founding Titan's abilities, Eren releases the Wall Titans and causes the Walls to crumble away; this also causes the crystal around Annie to break apart, inadvertently releasing her from imprisonment. Mikasa arrives to where Eren told her to meet him, but finds Armin alone. He begins to cry and apologizes to Mikasa, informing her of how Eren died to save him from the hot air balloon accident. [49] Abilities Physical strength Annie is considered to be an isolated, exclusionary type; friendships do not come to her easily. She is rarely seen smiling and often has an emotionless expression. While watching the two meet with Levi and Hange, Mikasa ponders what their plan might be while trying to wake up Sasha. Complexity: The ring represents the complexity of Annie's character, reminding the viewer that there is much more to her than meets the eye. Throughout the series, Annie is portrayed as a multifaceted character, who is driven by her own motivations and beliefs.
Her eye color is not consistent and often varies, depending on the light and surroundings, between shades of gray and occasionally blue. Her body has been depicted as extremely well-toned, with little, if any, in the way of body fat and muscles lined throughout her arms, legs, and abs. After the Scouts return to Paradis Island, Mikasa attends the funeral service held for the eight soldiers lost during the battle in Liberio. Afterward, she remains by Sasha's grave to continue mourning. She is interrupted by the sound of Conny and Jean saving Niccolo from being harassed by a Military Police Brigade soldier. Mikasa is one of several Scouts who journey to Marley's mainland to meet with Kiyomi. When Eren leaves in the middle of the meeting, Mikasa and the rest of the 104th graduates go searching for him. In the three years following Eren's death, the survivors of the "Battle of Heaven and Earth" at Fort Salta are made peace ambassadors between the remnants of the outside world and Paradis. As the ambassadors sail to Paradis to begin peace talks in the year 857, Annie voices her skepticism that they will have any success negotiating with Paradis. Armin is confident that the sight of the Warriors and the Scout Regiment, former enemies, working together will be enough to get the Eldians of Paradis to listen, although Annie points out that she was in the Military Police Regiment. The next night, Nifa brings a message from Commander Erwin, prompting Levi to tell everybody to clear the cabin immediately. Outside, he reveals the royal government has put a freeze on Scout Regiment activity outside the Wall and are demanding they hand over Eren and Historia. Levi Squad and three of Hange's subordinates make for Trost. There, a carriage comes crashing through and seemingly kidnaps Eren and Historia, though the kidnapped victims are actually Jean and Armin in disguise. [37] Despite all her blind loyalty, Mikasa is quite stoic and level-headed. Her will is remarkably strong, and she is rarely seen to lose her cool or be at a loss of what to do, no matter how bleak a situation seems to be. Even when she believed Eren to be dead, outwardly she managed to remain so calm that only Armin could tell that she was battling with the pain of losing Eren. [12] However, she is not completely immune to the effects of her emotions. Her strong feelings for Eren, particularly when he is in harm's way, does at times cloud her judgment - sometimes to the endangerment of herself and others. One month later, on the day before the 57th Exterior Scouting Mission, Annie recalls her role in Marco Bodt's death during the struggle for Trost. The guilt of her past actions is further burdened with the anxiety of her upcoming task: infiltrate the 57th Exterior Scouting Mission and capture Eren Jaeger. Annie consults Hitch, her new roommate, asking for her to cover her absence tomorrow. Hitch agrees, but only on the condition that Annie would accept a task Hitch had been assigned. Her duty is to locate a missing girl named Carly Stratmann, daughter of the wealthy merchant Elliot G. Stratmann. [14]
Armin grabs her hand and reminds her that he does not like being called a "good person," noting that he has killed many people and chosen to betray his own race. Armin laments that the world beyond the Walls did not match his and Eren's dream, but he tells Annie that he still chooses to believe that there is a part of the world yet to be discovered. Annie's appearance as the Female Titan changed quite drastically, though her overall physique and facial features remained mostly the same. Her body consisted mainly of exposed muscle tissue, in which there was a noticeably limited amount of skin coverage across her body, and fingers made out of bone. Along with a massive increase in height, her face was laden with muscle lining, notably underneath her cheeks, giving her the capability to stretch her mouth far more than it seemed possible, along with yellowish teeth. Compared to the majority of other Titans encountered, Annie's Titan form seemed much more physically fit and stronger, bearing a lean build with visible muscle definition and a feminine form. After the events of the Wall Maria's destruction, the government's desperate attempt to reclaim the lands using the refugees leads to nothing but more casualties. This prompts Mikasa, Eren and Armin enroll in the military and become members of the 104th Cadet Corps. [14]
While Annie is trapped inside the crystal, one of the Scout Regiment members, Jean, tries to break the crystal to extract her, but Levi stops him, telling him that it is no use. Shortly afterwards, both the Military Police Brigade and the rest of the Scout Regiment take her underground and detain her. [12] Clash of the Titans arc [ ] They arrive at the chapel and find the secret door leading underground. The team makes preparations for facing the Anti-Personnel Control Squad, which is waiting for them below. When they are ready, they send barrels of gunpowder and bags of oil down the stairs. Sasha sets fire to them with a flaming arrow and fills the underground chamber with smoke, reducing visibility and the usefulness of firearms. Most of the squad provides additional cover with signal flares while Mikasa and Levi scout out their enemies using ODM gear. Levi calls for his squad to take out the Interior MPs and the team springs into action, with Mikasa swiftly killing three enemy soldiers. After a concerted push, they manage to force the Anti-Personnel Control Squad into a retreat. [43]
