Unquestionably, she was a deeply kind and generous person, with true humility, and he captures that aspect of her beautifully. But as a reader, I had questions he never attempted to really explore or answer. This is one of the great challenges of writing biography -- how to serve your reader as well as your interviewees -- which is why great biographies are difficult to find. She discovers secrets which had been kept from her when she was a child, about her own family and is not only devastated by the information, but that it had been kept from her by someone she implicitly trusted. How does she recover? Now I’m not exactly the most fashionable person in the world (far from it 😂). However I absolutely love reading about the lives of icons and designers I just find it fascinating to learn about their rise to success, I find it really inspiring.

Our Kind tells the story of a group of women who, once country-club housewives during the 1950s, are now left to confront the realities of life as independent and divorced women. An insightful and witty novel, Our Kind, succeeds in capturing the attitudes and experiences of a generation of women. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is a captivating read in which an aging Hollywood film star, Evelyn Hugo, decides to share the truths of her life. Choosing a largely unknown magazine reporter, Monique Grant, to write her biography, Evelyn bares all about her seemingly glamourous life. Wow! Brenda Janowitz, author of “The Audrey Hepburn Estate,” has written a spectacular, captivating, and intriguing novel. I loved everything about this book. The genres for this novel are Historical Fiction, Romance, Mystery, Suspense, and Fiction. The author vividly describes the characters, the scenery, the plot, and the events. Brenda Janowitz is a wonderful storyteller who gives the story such a sensory feel. One can smell the flowers, the food, and the drink, hear the characters, and feel and see the art. The author does raise the question, “When is a home, and when does a house become a home.” The author also discusses visiting the past, second chances, and forgiveness. Shows ALL the pictures from the Audrey Hepburn Exhibition by the National Portrait Gallery in London, England July, 2, 2015. Emma tries to plead with Leo to stop the destruction of the mansion. But Leo, now a business owner refuses. Emma’s heart is broken. She inevitably calls on her once love, Henry to help her convince Leo to stop the demolition. But Henry is on Leo’s side. As the three friends are reunited, memories of them as children surface and are seen quite differently by each.

I have long been a fan of Brenda Janowitz’ writing, from her earlier romcoms that had me belly laughing, to her emotional family dramas that left me a sobbing mess. Her characters are always very real and incredibly relatable, expressing a vulnerably and rawness that is so unique to her writing. As such, I wind up thinking about her stories long after I have finished reading them. The Audrey Hepburn Estate is set at the estate on Long Island that inspired the setting of the classic movie Sabrina. Emma Jansen grew up at the estate; her mother was a maid there. She was in love with the grandson of the owners, Henry, a charming golden boy. Leo, the chauffeur's son, had a crush on Emma and they were best friends. Years later, when Emma hears the estate is being demolished by a developer (Leo!) she visits to see her childhood home one more time. This opens a new chapter for Emma, Leo, and Henry ... with history of the estate interwoven.

Hulme wrote the book based partly upon the experiences of her friend, Marie Louise Habets of the Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary, a Belgian nurse and an ex-nun whom she met while working with refugees in post-war Europe. The author sponsored the former nun's immigration to the United States, and later converted to Catholicism. [1] It often is stated erroneously that the book was based upon Hulme's experiences. I have always enjoyed watching many of Audrey Hepburn's films and I knew from my mum that this was a good biography of her. Barry Paris has certainly done his research and I felt I had a well-rounded view of Hepburn by the end of the book. I will say this: I found myself incapable of reading a lot before I had to close the book and gaze romantically at the cover, wondering how strange people would think me to be if I up and kissed it. In 1959, the book was adapted into a film by screenwriter Robert Anderson and director Fred Zinnemann. The Nun's Story starred Audrey Hepburn as Sister Luke. It was a critical and box-office success, and was nominated for eight oscars at the 32nd Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Hepburn's third nomination for Best Actress.Brenda Janowitz’s THE AUDREY HEPBURN ESTATE is a truly beautiful novel about the power of home, first loves, and dark hidden family secrets; sprinkled with a little bit of Audrey magic and lots of Easter Eggs…as Janowitz is known for, with her now third Hollywood icon-centered novel after The Grace Kelly Dress and The Liz Taylor Ring. By focusing specifically on the 60s, the book succeeds in capturing Hepburn at the very height of her career and includes photo shoots with some of the most highly regarded photographers. The selected quotes from some of her contemporaries, as well as by Hepburn herself, make this a visually stunning book,” says Elvira Stamper, a book blogger at Next coursework and Writemyx.
