About this deal

Clean and Clear uses Salicylic Acid (BHA) for their formula, whereas Neutrogena's instead contains Benzoyl Peroxide. While Salicylic Acid unclogs pores, Benzoyl Peroxide kills the acne-causing bacteria itself. Treating acne or acne-prone skin that is either dry, oily, or combination is complicated. With so many products on the market claiming to effectively treat and even prevent acne, finding the proper skincare routine is a delicate balance. We all know the temptation to squeeze a whitehead spot is huge but try to resist! Popping a spot may be satisfying at the time but it can actually damage the healthy skin around the spot and allow the infection to spread, leading to even more spots! Honestly, it seems Clean and Clear forgot the assignment a little bit since their scrub includes no other acne-fighting ingredients, and it actually also includes a slightly harsher cleansing agent in Sodium Laureth Sulfate. That said, it is *extremely* popular and highly-rated, and though we realise that popularity doesn't necessarily guarantee efficacy, it certainly correlates. However, it’s important to note that while the spot treatment does a great job at reducing redness and inflammation, it’s not a standalone solution. The instructions recommend pairing it with a facial moisturizer, and I found this to be crucial. The treatment can be a bit drying, especially if you have sensitive or dry skin, so using a moisturizer is necessary to maintain the skin’s balance.

DMDH Hydantoin– Group 1 Carcinogen and yet you will tell me on my face that below 0.074% or less concentration of DMDH is safe. (Don’t be naive!) At the heart of practically every worthwhile acne treatment is an exfoliating formula which unclogs pores and removes dead skin cells from the surface of the skin, thereby preventing new breakouts and allowing existing acne to clear up on its own. Clean & Clear states that you’ll see an improvement after 4 hours, which is true, especially if your pimple is brand new. But it’ll take 4 or 5 days for salicylic acid to make it go away completely. If you've been following along with the whole guide up until now, bells might be ringing with regards to how similar this is to the dilemma we had with their cleansers. Long story short, because of the difference in actives, the two products end up being suitable for slightly different types of acne. Drink plenty of water. A glass after every time you pee. (Persistence is key, avoid drinking a jar a day)While these ingredients are considered safe and are FDA approved, acne-prone and sensitive skin may react to such ingredients. But, if you have sensitive skin, putting alcohol on your pimples could sting them real bad. That’s where it pays off to know what your skin can take.

Otherwise, keep scrolling to learn more, starting with the fact that Johnson & Johnson have much to do with these misdeeds. Witch Hazelalso contains tiny amounts of the essential oil and fragrance component eugenol, but the amount is so small that it's probably not significant for the skin. The main biologically active componentsin Witch Hazel are hamamelitannin (a potent astringent and antioxidant), catechins (anti-inflammatory and antioxidant) and gallic acid (antibacterial). The bark extract contains by far the most hamamelitanninand it has the most gallic acid and catechins. The twigs contain fewer catechins, less gallic acid, and much less hamamelitannin(4.77% vs 0.18%). The leaves contain hardly any tannins (0.04%) or catechins and contain amedium amount of gallic acid (compared to the bark and twigs). If the ingredients list stopped there we'd be waxing lyrical about it, but as mentioned in the overview, it unfortunately contains more than a few causes for concern: parabens, PEGs, fragrance, and synthetic dyes.

Aqua, Alcohol Denat, Glycerin, Polyacrylate-13, Salicylic Acid, Cyclopentasiloxane, Polyisobutene, C12-15 Alkyl Lactate, Propylene Glycol, Cedrus Atlantica Bark Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Cinnamomum Zeylanicum Bark Extract, Sarcosine, Hamamelis Virginiana Water, PPG-2 Isoceteth-20 Acetate, Dipropylene Glycol, Alcohol, Butylene Glycol, Lactic Acid, Hexylene Glycol, Isoceteth-20, Cetyl Lactate, Phenethyl Dimethicone, Capryloyl Glycine, Polysorbate 20, Sodium Chloride, Cocamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Dehydroxanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA, Acetic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Benzalkonium Chloride, Perfume, Benzyl Alcohol About Gio Both the Clean & Clear Essentials Dual Action Moisturizer and the Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Moisturizer offer exactly what we're looking for in good acne moisturizers: 0.5% Salicylic Acid, a non-comedogenic formula, a lightweight texture, and no oils named in the ingredients lists. Neutrogena and Clean & Clear are owned by Johnson & Johnson. As the largest health care company globally, J&J remains at the top of the pharmaceutical list as a health care empire. Red 4 is a synthetic dye produced from petroleum, and Yellow 10 is a synthetic dye produced from petroleum or coal tar sources.Style your hair away from your face -Natural oils from your hair can add to the problem if it gets onto your face. A good way to avoid this is to tie your hair up away from your face. How about a braided plait, insert a hair doughnut or a relaxed low-side bun for a different look that also helps keep skin clean & clear!

Clean & Clear Advantage Rapid Gel may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not use this gel if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness. As soon as a pimple reared up its ugly head, I applied a drop of Clean & Clear Advantage Spot Control Treatment Gel straight away. Owned by Johnson & Johnson, Neutrogena is a science-driven skincare line known for its effective yet affordable products. Founded in 1930 by Emanuel Stolaroff, the brand was previously called Natone and was later named Neutrogena. Popular products include makeup removing cleansing towelettes, pore refining toner, ultra-gentle cleanser, ultra-sheer sunscreen, and the brand's famous transparent bar soap. Alcohol is a very controversial ingredient. Critics say it’s terribly drying and irritating and it can make pimples worse. Fans say it helps active ingredients better penetrate your skin and its drying effects can be counteracted with a good moisturizer anyway. Keep your hands away! -The less you touch your face, the less dirt and bacteria will spread onto your skin. Always wash your hands before applying make-up or when you need to re-touch your face!

The complication, however, is that different extracts and distillates can be made from different parts of the plant (bark, twigs, and leaves are typically used) and different extraction methods from different parts produce different results. So if you see only Witch Hazel Extract or Witch Hazel Water on the ingredient list, it's a bit hard to know what you're actually gettingbut we will try to summarize the possibilities to give an idea. Neutrogena doubles-down on the idea of 'acne treatment' with their scrub. It contains Salicylic Acid (to further expunge nastiness from your pores), as well as Grapefruit Extract (to kill acne-causing bacteria), and a gentle surfactant— Cocamidopropyl Betaine—to avoid further inflaming acne. PEGs are known as human skin toxicants or allergens and are highly debated for their safety in cosmetics. As a result, you will find PEGs listed as one of the Dirty Dozen. Animal-testing may be done with J&J suppliers, through a third party, or when animal testing is required by law in another country.
