Connor loves playing treasure hunt so I created an elaborate (but still age appropriate for a three year old) treasure hunt for his party. You can use small plastic dinosaur toys on the top of your three-rex cake (be sure to wash them well before using). You could also use small plastic plants or break up a larger plastic fern for decoration. In the photos below you can see what the cake looks like if you use some mini-eggs to look like a dinosaur egg cake topper. I like putting fruit and veggies in individual cups because they are allow guests to easily grab and hold them. We displayed them on a galvanized 2 tier serving stand. We wanted to tie the cake to the invitation design so we designed the cake topper to be a speech bubble and then transformed a plastic dinosaur to look more like the playful t-rex on the envelopes. I designed the treasure hunt map and then printed it on a piece of paper that was dyed with tea like we did with the invitations. At the party we had a competition. We split into two teams and each person took their turn throwing the 5 steaks. We added up how many steaks each person on the team fed the t-rex to see what team won. After they figured out the name of their pet dinosaur, they had to look through the boxes on the table to find the name tag with their pet dinosaur’s name and then they could take that one with them. Dinosaur Party ShirtsThe t-rex was a favorite among everyone at the party. He got carried around the party participating in the games and the photo booth. I will say that it is good quality for the price. The t-rex got punched and wrestled with and held up fine. If you have many shades of food coloring to play with, try using one drop of yellow, one drop of blue, and one drop of brown to get the same shade of green you see in my photos. Adding a tiny bit of brown will give you a slightly more sophisticated sage green color. But a bright shade of green frosting for a dinosaur cake is also a great idea; it will look like eye-catching grass. Helium balloons - I inflated a large gold foil number 3 balloon, olive green balloons, and white balloons inflated with helium and secured with green balloon weights. You can pump helium balloons using a helium tank or get them filled at your local party store. Paint - We opted out of a paint set up to make clean up easier. If you want to include paint, be sure to include paint brushes and small paint palettes. After the paper dried, he ripped it into 8 ½ by 11 sized paper and we ran it through our printer and printed two invitations per piece. Then, he used a special technique to rip the paper down to the individual 5″x7″ sized invitations. This gave the invitations the rough edges.
