About this deal

With a simple, stylish fabric finish, this is one laundry hamper that you won’t worry about having out on display – far from it! And when the totes themselves get dirty (we’re looking at you, school PE kit!), you can detach them from the plastic rims at the top – they fasten with a simple hook & loop strip so they’re easy to remove – and pop them in the wash with the rest of your laundry. With three compartments for whites, darks and colours and 93 litres of storage space, you needn’t waste your precious Saturday mornings separating piles of laundry on the kitchen floor. Just carry this laundry basket downstairs using its strong handles like a carrier bag and put your washing directly into the drum! Made from fabric that feels a little bit too much like plastic, according to previous customers, it is surprisingly free-standing but still easily collapsible. In short, this is a well-priced and smart-looking laundry basket that makes life just a little easier. And we’re big fans of that. We have one big bag in a central place, everyone brings their stuff each morning, and a big basket for moving the wet washing/dry washing.” (Type of laundry basket suggested by CarefullyCourageous) Our verdict

You will have to build this hamper yourself, but it comes with everything you need to put it together, including that all-important Allen key – and full instructions. The thoughtful addition of a lid hides the taunting glare of the laundry from your peripherals; allowing you to undertake a load readiness assessment at your own discretion. Each compartment and logistical transfer bag is the optimum load capacity providing ‘at a glance’ indication of wash cycle readiness. If all else fails, Mumsnetters recommend repurposing this old faithful: the IKEA FRAKTA blue bag. IwisheIwereamillionaire says: “I use the large blue IKEA bags as they’re easy to carry, I squish them down the side of the washing machine when I’m not using them, and they don’t take up space. I think they’re only 50p, I had mine for years, and they’ve lasted longer than any baskets I previously had!” How we chose our recommendations Again, this will come down to personal preference, but it’s a good idea to have at least one. A family of four may choose to have a laundry basket in every bedroom to keep clothes organised and darks and whites separate, while smaller households may only require one. Some people may also choose to have a laundry basket for clothes and another for towels and bed linen. Where should you put a laundry basket? It holds a family-friendly 60 litres of washing, and there aren’t many laundry hampers that will look this lovely in your home.Strictly speaking, a laundry basket is what you collect your washing in, take it to the machine, transport to the airer and so on. A laundry hamper is where you put your dirty laundry while it waits to go into the laundry basket to get washed. Many laundry baskets contain some element of plastic; sometimes, it's hidden, and other times it’s more noticeable. Either way, if you’re trying to buy eco-friendly products, that can be incredibly annoying, which is why we’re recommending the John Lewis ANYDAY Willow Round laundry basket as the best option for the environmentally conscious.

Children have a laundry basket each in their rooms which they bring to my room on Wednesdays and Sundays. I have four baskets in my room - bedding and towels, whites, lights and darks, and everything gets sorted into those.” (Individual kid's laundry baskets recommended by UndeadSlut) Our verdict But if you’re the type of person who likes to stay on top of your washing pile, a basket with holes may not be something you need to consider. How many laundry baskets do I need? Piling up dirty clothes in a confined place can lead to mould and mildew, so a laundry basket with holes may reduce the risk of this. The holes can also help to keep the laundry basket clean by allowing odours and moisture to escape, and holes will make the basket lighter when you’re carrying a load of washing, wet or dry, around the house.BUT if an inanimate household object can actually change your life for the better, then this is it. Struggling from your washing machine to your rotary washing line with your tatty old laundry basket? We think it's time to consider an upgrade, and the stylish and practical Joseph Joseph Tota is our best overall award winner. The answer to this will depend on the size of your household and, of course, the age and cleanliness of any young people you live with! Most of the laundry baskets we have listed here are capacious but also easy on the eye. For a laundry hamper built to last, the Pendeen Cabinet Laundry Bin is the perfect solution to seamlessly blend into your decor and discretely hide your dirty clothes.

Alison E. A little bit fiddly to A little bit fiddly to construct but I am not a fan of pictorial instructions. Worth it when it’s done though. Looks sleek and very practical. When it comes to materials, do you want something made from synthetic materials or from natural, breathable fabrics that prevent clothes from getting musty?Irina R. Very easy to put together Very easy to put together . Good design. Very comfortable with different bags.I excellent.

Highly rated by previous customers, they love that it is compact and discrete, with many of them buying multiple to separate their colours (genius!). And we love that its neutral, space-saving design will blend into any family home and can even be folded down and taken away on holiday. The only catch, if you can even call it that, is that the sides will bend if you overfill it, but that seems a minor inconvenience considering its value. Jean K. Easier Life [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Excellent product. It makes life easier by having three separate compartments, as washing is already sorted. How many people are in your household? This is a good indicator of the amount of washing that’ll need to be done. In reality, the two terms tend to be used interchangeably, and we’ve used both here. What is the best material for a laundry basket? The Joseph Joseph Tota laundry hamper. Looks very stylish with two removable hampers.” (Suggested by Mumsnetter Ledgeofglory) Our verdict

Why are there holes in laundry baskets?

Be mindful too of conditions such as colour blindness and bone idol ness as further adaptations may be necessary. I think that's a great idea and will buy one for myself. Don't like having a big plastic laundry basket cluttering up my storage space."(Suggested by Mumsnet user bibbitybobbityyhat) Our verdict Lynne A. This laundry separation basket is This laundry separation basket is a great idea to be able to separate your washing into whites, mixed colours and darks and all in separate carry canvas tote bags.looks good in the bathroom At Mumsnet, we’re all about finding convenient products that’ll save you money, and just like our best clothes steamer that cuts your ironing time in half, our best budget laundry basket will help you streamline your laundry routine without breaking the bank. Jade P. Family washing is a breeze! Easy to build together, managed do do this solo. The separation has been great to speed up the chore of laundry as it's pre sorted ready for the washer. I wasn't sure the size of the 3 areas would be big enough, with the exception of bedding or towels this is more than big enough for the standard clothing loads.
