Sweep the paving surface with a soft broom until clear of all excess stone dust. The stone dust may leave a grayish residue which will wash off when it rains. To avoid weeds and displacements in the coating, the joint must always be filled to the full height of the joint edge and be completely free of soil and other organic material. The coating is cleaned with a stiff broom and the joints are refilled as needed. Moss and algae can be removed by suitable means. Extreme weather conditions can cause white blooms in the joints and on the edges of the paving stones. However, they are usually washed off at the next rain shower. The salt deposits can also be removed by regular cleaning of the stones. We have added a mineral additive to DANSAND ® joint filling sand, DANSAND ® Stone dust and DANSAND Kerama ®. The mineral has a naturally high pH value, which creates a nutrient-poor environment in your joints. The weed seeds dry out and can neither take root nor germinate.We recommend a joint height of min. 4 cm when filling your joints to ensure that the roots of the seed do not have enough time to find nourishment, as it will dry out before then.

Also, the weather and substarate should be dry for the joints to harden completely. The joints do not withstand rain whitin the first 24 hours after pointing. Maybe this is the case? Finish by lightly dampening the sand with water by misting with a garden sprayer to allow the sand to settle. The ultimate goal is to AID water flow towards the house which has ACO drains around the edge to run the water away rather than have it spill into the gaps and into the ground around the house, missing the drains.Although the paving sand with weed killer is a little more expensive to buy initially than normal kiln dried sand. Buying the weed killing jointing sand should in the long-term help save you both time and money on maintaining you paving. It saves you money and time by not having to buy expensive weed killers. The product consists of washed and oven-dried silica sand, to which we have added a natural mineral. The mineral increases the pH-value and the ZAR value of the silica sand, creating an “unfriendly” environment that does not provide nourishment for weed plants. Hence, a weed seed that finds its way to your joint and tries to set roots here, will dry out after a short time.
