A Heathers: the Musical DVD and special edition Blu-Ray will be released on June 5, alongside a digital release.

Based on the 1989 cult classic film starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater and recorded live in its original London home, The Other Palace, this award–winning musical follows Westerberg High student Veronica Sawyer, whose dreams of popularity finally start to come true when she's taken under the wings of the three beautiful, yet impossibly cruel Heathers. But when a mysterious new kid, teen rebel JD arrives in town, Veronica realizes that while it might kill to be a nobody, it's murder being a somebody… The cast is led by Carrie Hope Fletcher as Veronica Sawyer, who is set to continue the role as the show transfers into the West End. Carrie Hope Fletcher joined the cast fresh from winning the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her stint as Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family (UK Tour). Carrie previously played Éponine in Les Misérables in the West End for three years. She has also released her debut album When The Curtain Falls. The filmed capture of Heathers: the Musical will screen in 320 screens across the U.K. and Ireland from March 28 through May 6. JASON DEAN (JD) - 17. He is darkly charismatic, compelling, attractive, charming on the outside yet very damaged on the inside. Keen smarts and strong inventive comedy. Voice: Strong, confident belt to at least an Ab, A preferable; wide emotional range.This production is certainly not for the faint-hearted. Heathers The Musical carries a very similar tone to the film, albeit with an added layer of music. At its core, this is a very dark comedy, as poignant now as the film was upon release.

The company's catalog contains more than 1,750 feature films. Heathers The Musical is closely based on the 80s film of similar name, starring Winona Ryder as Veronica Sawyer and the era’s heartthrob Christian Slater as JD. First unveiled in 1988, with a mainstream release the following year, the film also stars Shannen Doherty as Heather Duke. Doherty would go on to appear as Brenda Walsh in the hugely popular 90s TV series Beverly Hills and turn of the century favourite Charmed. It’s this story that has the biggest impact. The songs underpin a tale of hatred, vengeance, love, pain, beauty and darkness – a tale that rings true across many corners of society.The cinema release will mark the first time Heatherswill be shown in the UK since its streaming debut last year in the US and Canada. The musical is still available to streamthrough the free ad-supported Roku Channel but unavailable in markets outside the US.

The cast in this version of Heathers is fantastic and in my opinion one of the stronger casts the U.K. have had. Ailsa is one of my favourite Veronica's so it is great to see her portrayal filmed for DVD. She brings a lot of depth to the character and has an incredible voice. I like the relationship she shares with Simon as JD but sometimes I feel like this JD is a bit too nice. The Heathers are brilliantly cast and some of my favourites to watch in the roles. I love the innocence that Teleri brings to Macnamara, the boldness Duke shows and the fierce but lovable character Maddi brings to Chandler and all three of them have amazing voices. BIG BUD DEAN: J.D.’s single dad. Big jolly personality that barely conceals the enormous rage bubbling just below the surface. Quite possibly a serial bomber. It would have been nice to have had lyrics to the songs or an easy way to get to the songs but this is not included in the DVD. The scene selection doesn't even take you to a specific song, it seems to be all very random. There isn't even a scene that starts at the start of Act 2. I can work out which song is in which scene as I've seen it so many times but it would've been nice to have mostly a song per scene for easy viewing.
