About this deal

The other day I was bored of the fiddly job of rubbing butter into the flour, and besides, we know our cold pressed rapeseed oil is healthier than butter! So I thought why not replace the butter for oil! We produce a delicious premium extra virgin oil made from British rapeseed grown and pressed on our farm in Suffolk. hillfarm cold pressed rapeseed oil is a natural choice for anyone looking for a fully traceable, sustainable British oil. The rapeseed is ready to harvest in July when the pods are brown and fragile. When the seed is dry enough with a 9% moisture level we begin harvesting, aiming to get as much done as we can before the rain comes. Autumn Rapeseed oil is rich in tocopherols, which are vitamin E compounds. Refining oils can reduce vitamin E levels, which is why cold pressed oil is a much better choice. Tocopherols are used by our body to manufacture the antioxidants vital for protecting us against cell damage from free radicals (oxidative stress). Free radicals are a byproduct of our metabolism so a regular source of vitamin E is essential in a balanced diet.” – Lucy Williamson Vitamin K Hillfarm oil has a high smoke point, making it suitable for all types of cooking as well as dipping and dressing. Unlike extra virgin olive oil, our oil can be safely heated up to 220°C so won’t burn or lose any nutritional value in a hot oven, deep fryer or frying pan. The seed is cleaned and gently squeezed to draw out the oil; by treating the seed with respect we retain its nutritional composition and flavour.

The barn where we produce the oil is covered with solar panels which provides all the energy needed to run the pressing and bottling process and the offices as well – there’s even some spare to put into the National Grid. Suffolk Carbon CharterWhy buy something that has travelled over a thousand miles when there is a healthier, more versatile and, we would say, more delicious equivalent product being produced on your doorstep? 8. Hillfarm oil is only second to sunflower oil in the amount of Vitamin K it contains.” – Lucy Williamson High smoke point The rapeseed is beginning to grow. The stem elongates, and flower buds (broccoli heads) appear. By the end of April the familiar yellow rapeseed flower is out and we can see the flowering buds just starting to appear on the main stem. Our other citrusy cake is one visitors to the farm know well. This carrot, clementine and cardamom cake recipe is a family favourite and always baked when guests are coming. Butter-free and made with less than half the sugar of many equivalent sized carrot cakes, its flavour and sweetness is provided by the magic combination of our oil with carrots, 150g dark brown sugar, desiccated coconut, clementine juice and cardamom seeds.
