About this deal

As with most of King's short stories, this made me think deeply about how I would feel or react in a similar situation. The fact that his writing made me do this is a testament to his writing skills and ability to understand the human condition. David had a five in his wallet, but the foyer of 26 was empty. Beyond it, a big hardwood dance floor was crammed with slow-dancing couples, most wearing jeans and cowboy boots and clutching each other’s butts as the band worked its way deeper into “Wasted Days and Wasted Nights.” It was loud, lachrymose, and—as far as David Sanderson could tell—note perfect. The smells of beer, sweat, Brut, and Wal-Mart perfume hit him like a punch in the nose. The laughter and conversation—even a footloose yeehaw cry from the far side of the dance floor—were like sounds heard in a dream you have again and again at certain critical turns of life: the dream of being unprepared for a big exam, the dream of being naked in public, the dream of falling, the dream in which you hurry toward a corner in some strange city, sure your fate lies on the far side.

Harvey's Dream: A middle aged married couple discuss a dream the husband had which seems to be coming true.A Very Tight Place - A gross story about a guy trapped in a Port A Potty. Just gross for no reason. Time of night can also have a huge effect on the look of the image. You may have heard of the “ blue hour” before. This 30-ish minute period after sunset can still leave enough light in the sky to create a really pleasant blue color. As more time passes, this color will fade from the sky, and that opens up the opportunity to photograph the stars and focus on artificial light sources in the scene. Astrophotography Stationary Bike - I know my pal Abbie isn't a fan of this one, but I actually kinda liked it. I guess too much exercise can be a bad thing? It was an interesting concept and one that was hard to wrap my head around initially, but it wasn't as bad as I was anticipating. Confessional: The protagonist in Mute goes to confession and tells his story to a priest, because he believes that he has sinned in some way, but not sure how. A glass shattered. “You pay, partner!” the lead singer called as The Derailers hit the instrumental break, and the dancers applauded his wit, which probably seemed fairly sparkling, David thought, if you were running hot on the tequila highway.

He was sure there were no what you’d call nightclubs in Crowheart Springs, where the passenger station was just a long green shed with WYOMING and “THE EQUALITY STATE” painted on the side in red, white, and blue. No nightclubs, no discos, but there were undoubtedly bars, and he thought she’d settle for one of those. If she couldn’t go clubbin’, she’d go jukin’. That’s our cue to put on our diamond shoes and depart,” David said, and took her hand. He slid out of the booth, but she didn’t come. She didn’t let go of his hand, either, though, and he sat down again feeling a touch of panic. Thinking he now knew how a fish felt when it realized it couldn’t throw the hook, that old hook was in good and tight and Mr. Trout was bound for the bank, where he would flop his final flop. She was looking at him with those same killer blue eyes and deep dimples: Willa on the edge of a smile, his wife-to-be, who read novels in the morning and poetry at night and thought the TV news was… what did she call it? Ephemera. I’m going to tell you a hard truth, my friend: If she really considered herself your girl, she wouldn’t have done what she did. You think?” There was a wolf, too,” he said. “I clapped my hands and scared it off. I’m thinking of changing my name to Wolf Frightener.” He went to find Lander, who liked her a bit. Who called her spunky when Willa said Amtrak was full of shit for leaving them stranded like this. A lot of them didn’t care for her at all, stranded by Amtrak or not.Just wow. This piece of writing is one of the most captivating and skin-crawlingly delicious stories I have read in some time. A story which is as much about human nature and the workings of our minds, as it is about the supernatural or unexplained.

Weather plays a key role here, as the blue hour has a far more amplified effect in a clear sky. That doesn't mean you need absolute clarity though, because cloud formations taking on a pink hue can add to your photography during this time. A clear horizon is necessary for photographing a moonrise, but urban photography is unaffected. Doctors were busy men, disinclined to waste time in head-patting. So instead of something stupid, he asked how bad a number two-twenty-six was.' Willa rose and looked at David with an expression of hard grief that was too much to bear. He dropped his eyes to his feet instead. “Is this why you brought me out into the dark when I was listening to music?” she asked. “To show me what I am now? As if I didn’t know!” This story could be the funniest of all his short stories. As much as it is funny it is also incredibly scary due to its subject matter and the sheer tension built up with incredible writing. Willa is a sad, touching ghost story. That's a little bit of a spoiler, but come on, you've seen Sixth Sense, and anyway, King doesn't make you wait until the end. Great mood, though the story was unremarkable.

Shooting at night also presents the opportunity to create your own subjects. One of my favorite ways to do this is with light painting. The core concept is simple: in a dark area, while your camera’s shutter is open, you add light into the scene for an artistic effect. While there are dedicated tools for this, I got started with light painting with just a flashlight and some colored gels. These gels let me create a variety of colors from a white flashlight, but now there’s even a range of very affordable RGB LED lights available. Stationary Bike (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5) -- A commercial artist paints a picture on the wall in front of his exercise bike, but as he increases his riding, the painting starts to change. This is another of my favorites from this collection, I adored the character work. But here the living aren't in any better circumstances. They're always just about to discover something bad. The permanent condition of their lives is to be temporarily out of joint; like the girl in the elegaic and old-fashioned end-of-the-world piece "Graduation Afternoon", they often discover what they've lost only in the moment of losing it. Like the dead people on the railway platform, their lives are sustained by a communal suspension of disbelief, but the moment their attention is drawn to this act, they cease to be able to perform it. Existential emptiness lurks, and behind that, inevitably, something unspeakable, as in "N", a curious collision between HP Lovecraft, Arthur Machen and Alfred Bester's "The Pi Man". Here, one individual's obsessive-compulsive counting of a circle of stones — are there seven, or eight? — is the only thing that keeps humanity safe from the things it doesn't know. When composing an image at night, consider the impact of movement and light. Roads can offer the opportunity for light trails, while the general bustle of a city can make for a great contrast with the static buildings. The direction of the moonlight can also make a big difference, as well as the phase of the moon – a full moon that’s low on the horizon can light the scene quite dramatically, while a new moon provides the best opportunity to photograph stars or meteor showers.
