Gup-O - is an upcoming Gup. It is featured in the books and the toy has already been released. There is a slight glimpse of it on Tweak's Octo-Tablet during the Great Swamp Search, as she scrolls through the Gups deployment menu. Also, a sort of construction plan for the Gup-O has appeared in the Gup-S in The Over and Under Adventure. Only Peso can save the day when a cone snail invades the Octopod and tranquilizes the crew one by one with his dangerous venom-filled harpoons. A specialized vehicle meant for work in volcanic environments and combined from 5 smaller Z-GUPs. It is also capable of assuming a humanoid robot configuration for a limited amount of time.

It can be driven from two places. Either from the main cabin, or from a lighthouse like enclosure on the roof. When a huge sunfish by the name of Sonny enters the GUP-E, Peso, and Kwazii must somehow get the large fish out of the Gup. Eventually, they find out it's a sunfish by the name of Sonny; a species of fish with no fins. Kwazii is very protective towards the Gup, not wanting to let it out of his sight, as seen in The Octonauts and the Ring of Fire. The original books were first published in the US by Immedium in 2006 and were republished in the UK by HarperCollins in 2009. Six titles by Meomi have been published: The Octonauts are chased by a whitetip shark only to discover all he needed was a pilot fish to clean his teeth, and he just so happens that they have just met a lonely pilot fish that is hungry for action.

A series of shorter books based on individual episodes from the TV series is being published by Simon & Schuster.

In 2010, The Octonauts was adapted into a 52-episode CGI animated television series co-produced by Chorion and Brown Bag Films. It first aired in the UK on 4 October 2010 on CBeebies, a BBC television channel for children under 7. The first series ended in February 2011 but continued to be aired as repeats. A second series of 22 episodes commenced in November 2012.
