About this deal

For its years, Versace The Dreamer has just enough longevity to stay in game and still be one of the best-selling fragrances in the world. When To Wear Versace The Dreamer?

This is a difficult fragrance to review. It is kind of a polarizing scent. My bottle was produced in January 2014, so it is likely this new version, but with a more vintage formula than the newest produced bottles. It has a bit of a sharp opening, and I get a blast of something very green and floral. There is also a spicyness that I quite enjoy. As it dries down it becomes a floral tobacco scent, with a juicy tea note that doesn’t seem to be listed, but that might be the tobacco. I say it is polarizing because at this point the floral and powdery nature of the fragrance can be a little feminine smelling. It has quite a perfumey, powdery smell to it, and has great longevity and projection. Since Versace The Dreamer is a tobacco sweet fragrance, the best time to wear it is definitely nighttime during mid-colder days. It’s awesome for clubbing, and night events and will definitely hold its ground in the sea of other scents.

AUTHORITY PRESCRIPTION

I love the uniqueness of this fragrance. The opening is a little strong for some people but the dry down is beautiful. I really like how the florals and the tobacco and the vetiver mix so smoothly. It’s a perfect balance, the tobacco and i want to say the vetiver adds an edge to the florals which is very nice. I do smell the lavender and the rose especially the rose and i love it. There is the slightest hint if orange but that’s about it. And a light herbal scent in the opening. It opens objectively and bluntly (in a good sense) as an oriental fougere, with accords similar to leather. It shows a forestry juniper, notes of absinthe seasoning (Artemisia), and especially notes of anise seasoning (Tarragon). It is an almost unique opening that no one else does today and is easy to confuse with the lavender opening of the initial batches. From its first generation, it has maintained a "barbershop" aroma that continues to enchant old and new connoisseurs of good perfumes. In addition, this is one of the few perfumes I know that has maintained or improved its qualities over the years. It’s well known that fragrances old like this one usually don’t perform well, mainly because they went through many reformulations and got heavily diluted over the years. Reasons for this are obvious, manufacturers want to keep the original price, they want to reduce costs of production and invest in new things. Proof of this is that The Dreamer originally had real tobacco, but today it only has tobacco blossom notes. I wear it primarily for casual weekend wear but it’s polished enough, I could see it working for evening/romantic wear — less clubbing and more walks in the snow and gathering around the fire. Sillage and Longevity This is not love of my life, its more like muse, sent by universe to guide my journey. Like I`m not even worthy to wear it, because I`m just regular guy.

Uniqueness: 9.5 (although there are many fougére / floral fragrances in the market, The Dreamer has its own DNA and no flankers) It's not bad though and I can appreciate the juniper and tarragon combo, especially how it sort of recreates the scent profile of more elaborated fragrances with just those 2 notes (and maybe some hedione). As it dries down, I get a bitter, herbal, powdery amber, likely from the interaction with the artemisia, that lasts for several hours. There is an enveloping spicy warmth radiating from this fragrance throughout its rather lengthy life span. This is a beautiful scent that I have not come across through my large collection, and it worth having a bottle just for the beauty of the bottle art. This is a fairly uncommon fragrance, so you won’t smell like everyone else. A classic men’s fragrance born in 1996, it must have been quite the head turner in its time. It’s not for everybody, but it definitely has its fans. I don’t think it is a safe blind buy though, as it can lean a little feminine on certain skin chemistry. If you can, try before you buy. It is a clean, green, powdery, floral, sophisticated scent that will give you many hours of pleasurable wear. It is pretty potent for the cheap price and a few other design houses could learn lessons here as Versace never seem to fail in the performance department. Versace managed to make these notes and their aroma chemicals smell as close as old Dreamer, which is pretty impressive. You feel the most of tobacco notes from the base once it fully opens, and after that, it’s dominant the smell of fresh sweet lavender which is actually a note of iris in this case.

Indications

These are different, but there are similarities with the powdery-aromatic vibe, although the soft purple tones are lavender in Le Male and iris-violet in The Dreamer. Le Male has more forward vanilla & cinnamon accords, while The Dreamer has more forward iris-violet accords. Both have excellent performance. The best tobacco scent combined with flowers (lily, iris and some kind of rose effect) in the heart mixed with soothing juniper! Faboulus! The Dreamer has this ability to transform the way your clothing feels. You could be wearing that horrible scratchy wool everyone hates, but with one spray of this it would make it feel like you are suddenly wearing some of the softest materials on Earth. It really is amazing how this fragrance works on more than just the sense of smell by affecting other senses also. I find i feel like my skin is softer when i wear this. As much fun as the dreamer is for me, it's a little too whimsical and androgynous for me to make it my default go-to everyday scent. Its slight novelty role might also be why I enjoy it so much. However, the dreamer has become a favorite of mine that I wear at least weekly. I think it shines most in the spring time or in mild climates but is versatile enough to be wearable through all the seasons.

Shills almost always mention the fragrance being "ideal" for the current or upcoming season. The reason being of course is impulse buying is most effective when NOW is the time to buy. I have a love hate relationship with this fragrance. Particularly now it is reformulated. The updated version is a shadow of it's former self. Everything i expect from a perfect perfume, from the Big One, this one absolutely fulfils all those things! The flavour lasts up to 9-12 hours on my skin! Although the new version is a little bit different and less strong like this (the original one from the 90's).It's even long lasting and a very special scent for a very good price! It's a miracle! My favoutite fragrance! Real Masterpiece! Mystical emotions, romantic mood. I step instantly into an other dimension by smelling this scent and i'm always entranced by it! Just like his name says: i'll be a dreamer. I feel as if i were a persian prince from the tales ( like in the 1001 arabian nights) who's waiting for his secret lover under favour of the night in an oriental palace garden, under the million stars in the moonlight.... This is a love or hate fragrance. It's the smell of a crisp clean white shirt with a little fresh cigar smoke on it. Not stale smoke, but the kind of smoke while smoking a quality cigar. Some people love that smell, and others gag on it. The fragrance opens with a blast of sweetness. The dry-down hints of tobacco, ending with an aromatic woody trail.
