About this deal

As Yang puts it, “I've always admired Christine Love's singular ability to be literary, lewd, and mischievous all at once.” The storyline in this was about a secret mission that Violet was sent on, which involved going to Patrus, marrying a Patrus man as a cover story, and then stealing a special silver egg. The pace in this was just way too slow for me though, and I didn’t really love the forbidden romance either as again it just seemed like Violet inviting trouble in. Thank you to Bella Forrest and Netgalley for providing me with an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

The story starts out strong. Our hot-tempered heroine, Violet, is (of course) an orphan whose little brother was taken away years ago by the police because of his "domineering" character, and she has grown up in a series of detention facilities learning to fend for herself. After she gets into a fight with a bully, resulting in (accidental) womanslaughter, she is sentenced to death. However, she is offered a pardon from her crimes on the condition that she serves as an undercover agent to retrieve something in Patrus which has been stolen from Matrus's biology lab. Clearly, the government needs someone expendable. And clearly Vi has no choice. Oh my gosh, Bibliobuzzers. I was so excited when I started reading Gender Game by Bella Forrest. I seriously was. Though the blurb was different than most, it tends to be the case that every YA book ends up being the same book with a different cover. It’s dystopic, which means it will either be all Hunger Games or Selection series, right? Now thrust into more danger than she could have ever predicted, Violet is forced to sacrifice everything in the forbidden kingdom ... including forbidden love. What it is: While we only had access to Operation Lovecraft free demo, Fallen Doll: Origin is a series of poke-the-doll porn games by Project Helius. These types of games give you female body models to play with by customizing their clothing, bodies, and environments along with sexual interactions you can script and let play out however you want. The Lovecraftian demo is definitely the kinkier side of this type of sex simulator, though the original build has more vanilla options. You can try even more vanilla poke-the-doll games like Girlvania as well if this one’s too extreme. Machulis also suggested the much more polished poke-the-doll games offered by Thrixxx.Ever since the disappearance of her beloved younger brother, Violet's life has been consumed by an anger she struggles to control. Already a prisoner to her own nation, now she has been sentenced to death for her crimes. The world was super intriguing and I loved the male / female divide. The actual premise and story world was really good I thought and highlighted important points RE gender. The heroine of this novel, Violet, is a strong and spirited young Matrian girl who committed crimes for which she had been thrust into detention in Matrus, commissioned by the Court to embark on a mission in Patrus to retrieve a silver egg which had been stolen from Matrus. She must complete her task without detection and without Patrus suspecting Matrus of the crime, which would result in a war between the two nations. She's a strong lead with a lot of spirit, but without the boring "girl power" that one might expect from a book in which people are divided by their gender. Her romantic interest grows throughout the novel, and their relationship is not a sudden surprise to the reader. I lost sleep over this book. When I wasn't reading it, I thought about it. I was rooting for Violet. I wanted to read when I couldn't get to my Kindle. This book kept me going, thirsting for more. Thank you Bella Forrest!

I need a big old picture spelled out to me as I listen because let’s face it, I sometimes get distracted when I listening to my books. Everything about the patriarchy is dangerous for a rebellious girl like Violet. She cannot break the rules if she wishes to stay alive. The main character makes a lot of random decisions just to add conflict to the novel. I don't believe her actions were logical or believable. Video games are one of the most powerful mediums for active fantasy fulfillment as well as learning about one's own desires without any of the shame, rejection, fear, and sometimes simple unavailability of real-life sexual encounters," according to Zsuzsa James, a co-vice chair of the Romance and Sexuality in Games group of IGDA. "Compared to porn, games provide the possibility for player agency that can feel very empowering, not to mention the sheer amount of potential variety for lovers and erotic situations that wouldn't be practical with real actors."

Opens minds, breaks down myths and vaporises prejudice - I loved it!' - Rebecca Root, star of Boy Meets Girl While we've played each game on our main list, we can't vouch for the entirety of their contents - so always proceed with caution and at your own discretion. This is the first book I’ve read by Bella Forrest, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the series! This is a dystopian Young Adult series that should appeal to readers of The Hunger Games and Divergent and similar books. I feel strongly that Ms. Forrest took some of the best of the well-known and much-beloved dystopian novels most of us have read and wound them into an exciting novel. There are certainly shades of The Giver, along with elements from Divergent, and even Matched. If you enjoyed these books, I believe that you will enjoy The Gender Game as well. Surely if you enjoyed The Gender Game, you need to read these better-known and mass-published books, because you will get a great deal out of them.
