About this deal

Traditionally, shepherd’s huts were made from corrugated iron side panels, a corrugated iron roof and set on four cast iron wheels. Each hut would have a draw-bar for easy transportation around a farm or countryside. Notice the smaller front wheels on the image above, which is to aid maneuverability. Winton thrusts the reader into the barren and unforgiving salt land in western Australia . . . An absolute thrill to read. Booklist And like Winton’s earlier works, there is both tight narrative control and a contemplative probing: of sin, death, mercy, love, longing, responsibility and sacrifice. But in this novel these traits are exhibited in extreme forms, raising a number of extra challenges for readers. Again we found this preferable to the small front wheels and steering axles (4th wheel) as reversing a trailer that has two pivots is not easy, to say the least. The small front wheels, to us, looked out of character for a strong rugged hut. We have four base models within our range, with each model having variants in size and features to accommodate each client requirement. All our models are available as either ‘mains connected’ or ‘off grid’, or a hybrid of the two. Wide Range of Uses

There is music in this brilliant and uncomfortable book . . . a landmark book in Winton’s career: austere, beautiful and compelling. It has a subtle moral clarity that stands out even in a career that has relentlessly searched for the gold hidden in human rubble . . . After three readings, The Shepherd’s Hut was still yielding the riches of its unblinking vision of hope, a vision that will renew readers for generations to come. How Does it Work?

His nimble sentences wield an irresistible power that seems like literary legerdemain. Jaxie's peripatetic tale is harrowing, though humorous in places, and a coming of age saga like no other. Corey Mesler, Memphis Flyer The shepherd’s hut, sometimes known as a shepherd’s wagon, has been in use since the 16 th century, mainly in the UK and France. Built onto four iron wheels for mobility, the shepherd’s hut would be a small cabin measuring around 12ft by 6ft. Modern day huts can be used as work spaces, homes and even catering trailers. Big themes – faith, salvation – and visionary splendour . . . A most enviable writer, both lauded and bestselling, Winton has a particular gift for making the vernacular lyrical . . . The setup is exhilarating, compelling: we are in Tim Winton country, and we are in for a ride. Rachel Seiffert, The Guardian (UK)

Luxury huts, such as this one at Brosterfield Farm or this one at Benllech, with a fixed double bed at one end, kitchen and living space in the middle and an en-suite toilet and shower room at the other end would start from 16″ long to be able to fit everything in.As the shepherd’s hut has ventured into the modern world, they have developed to more like a mini timber-framed house on wheels rather than a ‘hut’ or ‘shed’ – the former a term that is strongly frowned up amongst shepherd hut aficionados. It now often fits into the growing tiny home and small living categories.
