About this deal

Dive watches are some of the coolest watches out there. They’re sporty, casual, rugged and durable. A 36mm dive watch certainly isn’t for everyone, but neither is 44mm or 42mm or even the universally loved 39mm. If you need more validation of the return to midsize dive watches, look no further than Tudor at Watches and Wonders 2023. But if there was one aspect of TAG Heuer that they are most known for outside of the watch enthusiast community, it is definitely their entry-level luxury watches, many of which come from their Aquaracer line. This line of dive watches covers the entry-level luxury segments and is available in several sizes and color iterations.

The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms is the original dive watch. Others came out just afterward, but Blancpain was the first. This is a smaller version of the current Fifty Fathoms, and just as capable. You couldn’t ask for a finer watch than the Fifty Fathoms. Breitling’s Superocean Heritage – 38mm Oris is getting up there in terms of being a luxury watch brand, and you’re going to pay for it. Not as expensive as Rolex or Omega, but pretty close. The Aquis is thier flagship dive watch. It features a Swiss movement, and has all the bells and whistles you would want. Please do your own research, though, as I haven't personally tried any of the following watches; I just think they could make for interesting avenues to explore. They're also linked below if you want to take a look. For me, the sweet spot is 42mm to 43mm. I dive a lot, but I’m not going to buy a multi hundred dollar watch that is 48mm wide to only wear it over a wetsuit when I’m diving. I don’t even wear a wetsuit on many of my dives in warm tropical waters. The Tudor Submariner Mid-size, ref. 75090, is a 36mm stainless steel Submariner borrowing much of its design and parts from its bigger brother, Rolex. The watch features a sapphire crystal, Mercedes handset, tritium lume, and crown guards. The case comes in at a very svelte 10mm thanks to the ETA 2824 -2 movement that powers the watch. This watch is exactly what Hans Wilsdorf had in mind when he founded the brand Tudor.

Laco Vintage “Used Look” 36

Longines has been making watches for nearly 200 years. The Hydroconquest is one of its flagship models. Anyone would be prooud to own one of these watches. For me the only thing is the style, I love some things about it and others I’m lukewarm on. For example, I could do with smaller numbers. I love the crown and crown guards. Everyone has different tastes.

As usual we are focused on dive watches here at The Dive Watch Blog. So that means they are all water resistant to 200 meters, have a screw down crown, and feature a uni-directional rotating bezel. All dive watches should have these features at a minimum. Gonna have to disagree with the author on watch size. I think that most watch aficionados would tell you that the size of ones wrist (i.e. circumference) is more important than the size of the person. If you have a skinny wrist, then a wide watch can look too large; if you have a large wrist, then a smallish watch may look a bit too small and even give off a “feminine” or “kid-like” vibe. While last year’s list of modern divers for small wrists featured the Oris Divers Sixty-Five, this time let’s take a look at the vintage Oris dive watches that inspired the modern Sixty-Five. Throughout the 1960s, you’ll find a variety of small, slim Oris dive watches and skin divers, with a variety of names on the dial.

Specification

While the Seamaster can’t deny certain visual similarities with the Rolex Submariner, its diameter is actually slightly bigger at 41 mm. Either way, more choices will always be a win for the enthusiast community as more and more people of different shapes and sizes can find the watch that fits their wrist and style perfectly! The angular 12-sided bezel gives the watch a brawny quality, so it’s not dainty looking despite its slim profile. The bezel, of course, is scratch-resistant ceramic, and the case combines brushed and polished steel. Powering the Superocean 36 is the Breitling Caliber 17 movement, which is essentially a chronometer-certified, Breitling-decorated and -assembled version of an ETA 2824-2. As such, it offers the standard specs of running at a frequency of 28,800vph with a power reserve of approximately 38 hours. When it comes to the venerable ETA 2824, this is about as good as it gets, and since you also receive chronometer-certified timekeeping performance, the Superocean really isn’t the same as a watch that uses an off-the-shelf Sellita SW200. However, given the price point, it would have been nice to see Breitling give the Superocean something a little more special in terms of its internals — especially considering that the brand has access to Kenissi-manufactured calibers. That said, generic movement designs offer unparalleled serviceability, and if you want to wear this bright orange timepiece as a fun and carefree vacation watch, there is something to be said about having the option to get it serviced at virtually any competent watchmaker in the world.

I happen to own a Submariner – ref# 14060, while a 40mm bezel width, the watch is smaller than the new model ref# 114060 which has a much larger squared off case. I also have a montblanc 38mm sport diver that fits my 6.75″ wrist perfectly. I have also owned a 36mm Seamster Pro 300 and found it somewhat small, likely referenced by the fact I’ve owned quite a few 40mm watches. If you’re looking for a fun and feel-good watch that’s still upscale and perfectly grown-up, the SuperOcean is one of the best out there. Conclusion Two pieces of good news: First, we don’t have to do either of those, thanks to the 15 watches here. Second, the huge watch trend is tempering as we speak, and I’m sure that dive watches will continue to find new life in smaller sizes.

The Oris Divers Sixty-Five is a model that has come to be a cornerstone of the Oris brand and provides entry-level luxury consumers with modern construction and specification while still maintaining the original charm of the Oris dive watches from the 1960s. As far as the bracelet, the angular slope of the middle link makes it more exciting than a regular flat three-link.

The Yacht-Master is built with Rolex’s 904L-grade Oystersteel, which is both stronger and shinier than the standard 316L steel that most high-end watches use. Meanwhile, the 2236 in-house Chronometer movement has an accuracy of -2/+2 seconds a day. Rado Captain CookThe crystal distortion you get on the large markers is another fun and charming personality trait that you don’t get from other by-the-book luxury divers, along with the slightly warm radium-toned lume. The Aquis has been around for several iterations and has been available in several sizes and dial options. My favorite of the bunch is the Oris Aquis Date Upcycle 36.5mm. ref. 01 733 7770 4150. As the name suggests, this version is the more compact 36.5mm case and features a unique dial composed of recycled ocean plastic producing a unique dial for every watch. We are going to take a look at some of the best examples of 36mm dive watches that are as capable as they are wearable. Before we dive (pun completely intended) into the list, let’s first identify exactly what a dive watch is, some of the history, and who would actually want a 36mm example. About Dive Watches Along with their 41 mm model Omega offers a 36.25 mm (1.4”) model of their Seamaster Diver 300M watch.
