About this deal

Find out more about the different types of vehicle servicing options, including what is a car service. What does a full car service include? Dates, this is the one where fakers trip up. When fakers, fake history, quite often they don’t due to maths involved for it to pass as legit. But as a service advisor I have been asked to stamp the service books on the cars having these services as I would with a maufacturer's service, I am not comfortable with this so have been stamping them but hand writing that it is only and oil and filter service to which my boss has taken it that I am being "awkward" and told me "I am of no use to him as a service advisor if I am not willing to follow his command". Every car should come with a service book, marked out with stamps denoting the date of a car’s service and how many miles were covered at the time of the work being carried out. If you’re struggling to find it, they’re often bundled in the wallet that also includes the owner’s handbook.

All Formula One Autocentres' servicing is carried out by fully trained technicians using only parts that match the quality of the manufacturer's original equipment. We'll stamp your service logbook too, to ensure that your vehicle's service history is maintained. Typically, the service schedule alternates annually between minor and major maintenance jobs, plus a few extra tasks that are performed according to the car’s age and mileage. The OP seemed to be saying that the boss wanted to stamp these skimpy dealer services in the book as if they were manufacturer's scheduled services, AE. Perhaps you are right though and there usually isn't much difference. The implication was that in this case there is a difference though.

What’s a full service history?

Let’s say the current owner, has had the car for three years and lives in London. The last three services were done in Cornwall. Why would someone drive four hours to get their car serviced? This would ring alarm bells of being fake history, unless the person worked there or had some plausible reason, they could prove. In this instance, it’s always important to ask for corresponding invoices for further proof. You should always be given an itemised invoice whenever your car is serviced, which lists exactly what work has been done and how much each job cost. Make sure you keep this information somewhere safe so you can refer to it again later if needed and so that it’s there when you want to sell the car. Dealerships that are part of the same manufacturer network should all have access to the same service record database, meaning you can recover its history from your local branch. Call up a main dealer and ask if they have any recorded history for the car in question. This could potentially add value to your car by providing more information about its history, or help clear up any doubts you have about one you want to buy.

If you go to a non-approved dealer but keep the vehicle serviced correctly according to the manufacturer’s guidelines, the vehicle will have a full service history. As well as an oil change, service history should let you know when some of the most important parts of your car, such as the brakes, battery, tyres or cambelt were last changed. This not only lets you know if the car is healthy, but also means you’ll be safer behind the wheel, too. During the last few months, a lot of people have been short on money and because of this, a lot of people are easily tempted to skipping a service. Yes, in the short term that seems like a cost saving exercise, however this can often mean a bigger cost later.Dealers will often include the brand name in the service history acronym. So ‘FMSH’ could mean ‘Full Mercedes Service History’, for example. ‘FBSH’ might mean ‘Full BMW Service History’ and ‘FASH’ could be ‘Full Audi Service history’. The history can come in three forms. There’s the traditional method, which is where the garage that performed the work stamps the vehicle’s service book and records the mileage and tasks performed during the service. This book is typically kept together with the car’s handbook and various warranty documents, more often than not languishing in the glove box. This depends on the car you drive. For example, a car service for an entry level car (I.e Polo Vivo, Datsun Go, Toyota Yaris) will not cost the same as a car service for an executive level cars such as your (BMW, audi, Mercdes Benz, Mazda 6 etc.). Find your nearest car service centre with ATS Euromaster and select your car service from the dropdown menu. Once you've found the closest centre, book an appointment at a time that suits you and take your car in for an Interim, Full or Major service. Subject to Mobil Oil making a suitable specification oil. Where Mobil Super or Mobil 1 oil is not available, an alternative suitable specification oil will be used
