Related: A Guide To Self Adhesive Vinyl: Types, Uses, And Application Tips Preheating the White HTV before Sublimation Then, load the mat with your printed sheet into the machine and press the flashing button to cut your design. The final step in the printing and sublimation process is to apply heat and pressure with a heat press. This will transfer the design from the sublimation paper onto the white HTV. Once the design has been transferred, remove the sublimation paper and allow the HTV to cool. I’ll also use my Cricut Maker 3 cutting machine to print then cut the sublimation paper, and cut the vinyl. Any of the Maker or Explore series Cricut cutting machines will work, because they have Print Then Cut capabilities. There are methods like printable heat-transfer vinyl that only require an inkjet printer, but I often find that the image will fade sooner than hoped for. I’ve tried Easy Subli too, which gives good results — but is kind of time-consuming, with lots of extra steps. Sublimation spray is fine in a pinch, but in my experience the image will fade the first time you wash the shirt.

Before starting the sublimation process, it’s important to wash and dry the HTV. This helps to remove any dirt, dust, or debris that may be on the surface, which could interfere with the transfer of the design. To wash the HTV, simply use a mild detergent and lukewarm water, and then rinse thoroughly. Avoid using fabric softeners, as these can leave a residue on the HTV that may affect the transfer process. Vibrant Colours: Get ready to make your designs pop! Our HTV offers a wide range of eye-catching colours that will elevate your projects to a whole new level. The intense pigmentation ensures that your creations will stand out from the crowd. Long-lasting Durability: Our HTV is made to withstand the test of time. With its exceptional quality, your designs will retain their vibrant colours and crisp details wash after wash.A few big things to be aware of are compatible materials, considerations for Inlay vs layering, and application. Based on over 30 years of supplying heat transfers, heat press and related equipment, including over 15 years of selling Heat Transfer Vinyls, we only sell Stahls’ Heat Transfer Vinyl and Printable Heat Transfer Vinyl due to their high quality and range features. Both types of vinyl require a plotter/cutter to cut the intended design, with the excess material “weeded away” (removed), but self-adhesive vinyl needs application mask if you want to keep different elements in the correct position. Heat transfer vinyl has a polyester-based, mylar carrier built into the product, so after its cut in reverse and weeded it’s ready to turn over and heat apply. A: Use my free subliflower designto see how your colors look! It’s Design #385 in my resource library!

Follow the same steps in Step 3 above to print and cut your design and HTV layers. Note that here you will have three mats instead of two. Make sure all are mirrored before continuing to print and cut.

Heat Transfer Vinyl, also often referred to as HTV or Iron on Vinyl, is a simple, easy to use, durable and cost-effective way to get started creating professional designs, shirts and garments with less overhead than other design methods.

Not all of my attempts at sublimating dark fabrics or cotton have been difficult or disappointing, though. While some of these tests have been a flop, others have actually yielded some really nice solutions to the problem. I’ve had lots of success sublimating glitter, holographic, and glow-in-the-dark vinyl. These gave great results — IF you want your image to be sparkly, holographic, or glow green when the lights go down. Use the Layers Panel to make sure you have the new layer selected and change the Operation to "Basic Cut." The shape will automatically change to gray, which is fine. The sublimation portion of your image will last as long as your shirt does. It is a permanent image that won’t fade with time and washing. The HTV areas of your shirt will have less permanence depending on the brand you’re using and how you care for your item. Make sure you’re following the recommendation for your HTV when it comes to washing and drying your shirt. Will adding HTV to sublimation cause my sublimation to fade? A: Each sublimation project will be different, but for THIS project you’ll press your clear HTV at 385° F (196° C) for 30 seconds to apply it to your shirt, and then sublimate at the same temperature for 55 seconds. As a general rule, if the surface is hard and smooth (such as walls, bottles, signs and mirrors), self-adhesive vinyl is the correct choice. However, if your surface is soft and can withstand heat (such as t-shirts, hoodies and bags), Heat Transfer Vinyl is the best choice. However, there’s no exception to this – When applying onto wood, Heat Transfer Vinyl often gives a better bond than self-adhesive vinyl providing it can be heat-applied onto. Another common issue with sublimation on white HTV is an uneven transfer or color. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including uneven pressure or temperature during the transfer process, using the wrong type of HTV, or not properly preheating the HTV before transfer.
