About this deal

At the heart of The Glenlivet is the Sample Room, our creative epicentre. A place of continuous improvement and creation, this is where our makers spend their time crafting, testing and refining our whisky until they achieve the finest balance.

The Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve Single Malt Whisky (Rum

Smooth, gentle, only a little sparkle. Tropical fruits, mango, peach. Some sweetness, vanilla. Some floral notes again. Later on it seems to gain some power, actually not even that thin for a 40% Abv. Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform. We do not sell, nor does the Service provide any option to buy, any alcoholic products. Rum is hot right now — at least in the world of whiskey it is, where rum casks are being used in all manner of new whiskey releases, including expressions from Dewar’s, Tullamore D.E.W., and now The Glenlivet, which finishes a non-age-stated single malt in Caribbean rum casks for an undetermined length of time. The Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve (image via Whisky Kirk) Tasting Notes: The Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve Palate: Fairly viscous for a measly 40% ABV. There are generic notes of ruminess, along with caramel, coconut milk, and sugarcane. Wood esters come through fairly distinctly, at least considering how most of this batch seems younger than 12 years old. This makes me wonder if part of the casks used were virgin oak.One ‘R’, Two ‘B’s… One ‘R’, Two ‘B’s…” I misspell “Caribbean” so often that I had to repeat this in my head like a mantra while writing. I now have “One R Two Bs” sing-songing in my head on repeat like a Dr. Seuss rhyme. What was I doing again? With Water: Several drops of water seem to mute the fruit notes in the aroma, and provide no relief from the bitterness throughout. Water not recommended with this one.

No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service. So, Scotland’s visiting tourists impact heavily on the Scotch whisky industry, and as a product Scotch whisky hits heavily on the world’s trading market, so really my opening sentence should not have been a question but a statement of fact: Scotland makes and sells the stuff, and because of that, people visit. The sting of not enjoying this bottle is lessened by the fact that I got it as part of my Flaviar Subscription. Sunk cost fallacy aside I can convince myself it was “free”. So there’s that. If you're looking for something to compete with, say, The Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask, this will fall short. It is also obviously younger. But, Caribbean Reserve is also more than half the price. What this will provide is an affordable, tasty, whisky that performs as advertised - an easy-sipping Scotch to be enjoyed on a hot, summer's day. I'll give it a Bottle rating, I believe it is worth that. Cheers! If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. Nose: Initial notes of honeydew melon, vanilla, orange marmalade, grassy, herbal. Slight hints of overcooked pear. Tropical and refreshing nose that betrays signs of youth with notes of cereal grains and wet hay.

Instead, it was very malt-forward, with undertones of honey, orange citrus, and apple cider. When I took the vapor into my mouth, vanilla and brown sugar slid across my tongue. Whiskybase B.V. In 2015 it was assessed that 80% of Scotland’s food and drink overseas export was taken up by Scotch! Impacting on approximately 200 overseas markets, with France then the USA topping the tables, that’s one single item – OK, yes, from over 140 producers – but still it’s just whisky.

On the nose: Apples (it is a Speyside!). It has that common edge of a liquid from that region, slightly orchard-like, with perhaps a freshly cut farm field, straw? Hay? With a slight hard candy sweetness, there is a pineapple juice hint…. I think. Finish: Most of the finish was medium in length. A hint of wood was accompanied by apple cider, brown sugar, clove, and banana. What lasted much longer was toffee.
