Shawn Achor, the best-selling author of, The Happiness Advantage: The Seven Principles of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success and Performance at Work says that, “If you can raise somebody's level of positivity in the present, then their brain experiences what we call a happiness advantage.” In my private therapy practice, clients often ask me, “What’s the key component of happiness?” My answer is both easy and very complicated, and I’ll explain why in this post.

When you try to be like someone else, you are trying to live according to what you think it means to be happy like them. And the unfortunate truth is that most people are pretending to be happy. Meaning: Happiness is when you’re not trying to escape the present moment. Whatever it is, you relax into it, content. We have the ability to express gratitude for all experiences in life. We’re able to sit with difficult emotions without denying ourselves love. We’re able to be with ourselves and with the world in a way that shapes our overall perception of our lives to one of love and gratitude. This is the path to happiness. 2. It requires a willingness to know the truth. Instead of looking to get happy from a person or a job, or an external factor, view relationships and/or work as outlets for happiness, and focus on how you can give more happiness.Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. And when I say whiteness, what I mean is a real blindness to factors in one’s own life that give them a leg up. Perhaps over the next week or so, become conscious about what is that has you radiate happiness and begin to focus on that more. Start your day as you mean to carry on I fancied what I would feel if I lived a stable life because I couldn’t distinguish amongst those who really loved and cared for me. Choose happiness every day. If you do, over time, your world will slowly open up and you will experience joy in the smallest of things. You don’t need to search for happiness because it’s already inside of you, waiting to get out. The happiest of people didn’t get this way magically. They wake up every day and choose to be happy.
