About this deal

The Arete One has a really nice user interface. It has just four buttons that are easy to get the hang of: We live in a damp Victorian end of terrace house and were constantly battling mould and musty smells until we invested in a dehumidifier. Of course, with the cost of living and climate crisis, it's important to take into account the energy usage of any home appliance, and you'll likely be wondering how much a dehumidifier costs to run. This is the new Meaco MeacoDry Arete One 10L, which isn’t just a dehumidifier because it’s also an air purifier too. That’s great news for me as the Meaco dehumidifier I currently own (as opposed to ones I test) is getting a little long in the tooth, so I’ve been keen to try this most recent addition to the Meaco product portfolio. Having a dehumidifier with the option to transform it into an air purifier adds even more appeal, as far as I’m concerned. For us, the most important thing about Arete is that is has been designed by collaboration with our customers. We have listened and learned, and all of that new knowledge is in the details that make Arete so special. Optimised for your life and the British weather.

As well as the standard mode, there’s a laundry mode, which sets the target relative humidity to 35% and runs the machine for a maximum of six hours. It’s designed to help dry laundry hanging on a clothes rail. The amount that fills up in the tank speaks for itself on its effectiveness. Magic!' Evening Standard The MeacoDry Arete One 12L dehumidifier is a great buy for apartments or small to medium-sized houses, and it’s easy to move from room to room thanks to the extendable handle and castors, and compact enough to store easily when not in use.Larger homes, or those with more serious damp issues, may benefit from opting for the MeacoDry Arete One 20 or 25L which offer the same great functionality with an increased extraction capacity. Don’t use an electrical appliance in a bathroom, just open the bathroom door and run the machine in the hallway instead.

Moon-shaped button for activating night mode (in night mode the LED screen turns off and there are no beeps) The Meaco Arete One is a pretty powerful machine and it’s very quiet - plus it's Quiet Mark Certified - but it does hum. If we put it on a loose floorboard it gives off a low vibrating sound, but that’s probably more due to loose floorboards than the Meaco. We sleep in the room next door, and when the spare room door is closed you can’t hear it. Plus, when running the dehumidifier in the kitchen, I found that it got rid of odours from cooking. Power requirements change, too. The first example draws 179W, while the second one requires 211W. At the maximum draw, the MeacoDry Arete One uses 235W of power. That isn’t unusual for a compressor-based dehumidifier, working out at around 3.3p per hour. Dehumidifiers are fast becoming a must-have home appliance. As well as removing moisture from the air, which can help if your home suffers from dampness and mould, the best dehumidifiers can also help to reduce indoor laundry drying times and improve indoor air quality.

That said, this dehumidifier can also act as an air purifier, so there is an optional HEPA filter that you can fit into the dehumidifier. I’d recommend using it as this filter can help to clean the air whilst the dehumidifier is working.Bonus! The DC motor is unique to the 25L Ultra Low Energy, in general terms the differences are similar to the long list listed on this blog, apart from that the 25L Low Energy has no HEPA filter at all. If the source of moisture is coming from the one location then you should buy one larger dehumidifier, if you feel that you have moisture coming from say the kitchen and drying laundry downstairs and the bathrooms upstairs, then I would buy two smaller dehumidifiers. Running costs vary depending on the size, make and model of dehumidifier you opt for, but the MeacoDry Arete One 12L dehumidifier uses a relatively low 151 Watts of electricity. At current prices that's an approximate running cost of just 4p per hour. Large items (delivered by two people, such as appliances and furniture) can be returned using our Home Collection service. We didn’t realise for the first few months and then accidentally found it when we were cleaning a few months later. The dehumidifier was already pretty powerful with the plastic bag inside it, but even better when we removed it! For the purpose of this MeacoDry Arete One Dehumidifier review, I tested out the MeacoDry Arete One 12L Dehumidifier, which can extract 12 Litres of moisture from the air per day, making it ideal for use in flats, apartments, and rooms of up to 50 m². A dehumidifier isn't the most exciting of household appliances, but it's obvious that attention has still been paid to the MeacoDry Arete One dehumidifier's design. The unit looks both sleek and modern, with simple monochromestyling that blends easily into a room without standing out too much. The water tank is placed at the front of the machine, so if it is pushed up against the wall, you can still access that easily. Plus, the MeacoDry Arete One dehumidifier'sSmart Laundrymodeworks brilliantly for drying washing indoors – wet laundry was dry in hours rather than the days it can usually take in my draughty Victorian terrace.

Saying that we have tested it downstairs in our open plan living/dining room, as well as in our horribly damp kitchen, and it was really efficient there too. Definitely a good choice for a bigger house or living space. In terms of noise, on the highest speed fan setting I measured the MeacoDry Arete One at 48.8dB, which is certainly loud enough to hear; on low speed, it was 45.9dB when measured from a distance of 1m. The only quieter dehumidifiers I've come across are Peltier models, like the Pro Breeze 1500ml Mini Dehumidifier. However, Peltier dehumidifiers are far less powerful than compressor dehumidifiers. For comparison, as I discovered in my Pro Breeze 1500ml Mini Dehumidifier review, this Peltier model can only extract 0.5L of moisture from the air per day, compared to the MeacoDry Arete One range which can extract 10, 12, 20, or 25L of moisture per day! Portability Yes, there is the option to connect a garden hose and continually drain water from the dehumidifier There are also hidden castors on the base of the dehumidifier, so rolling the unit from room to room is also an option. I found it rolled well on both hard floor and carpet, unlike many other dehumidifiers of this weight that struggled on carpet. Maintenance

We test every dehumidifier we review thoroughly over an extended period of time. We use standard tests to compare features properly. We’ll always tell you what we find. We never, ever, accept money to review a product.

As is the case with all dehumidifiers, power requirements and performance will depend on relative humidity and temperature. For example, at 10ºC with 60% relative humidity, the MeacoDry Arete One 10L can extract 1.41-litres of moisture per day, running at 129W. Get up to 30ºC and 80% relative humidity, and the MeacoDry Arete One 10L will extract 10.42-litres of water per day, running at 199W. Typically, given the UK climate, this model will cost around 4p per hour to run. In fact, this is the quietest compressor dehumidifier I've tested, far outperforming any of the other models we've tested on this front. Customers tell us that they never put their dehumidifiers away. In fact, they stay in the same area of the home all the time. So we have designed Arete to be stylish so that it looks great wherever you put it. It sits flush to the wall, has hidden castors and an air purification mode means you can use it all year round too. There’s a Laundry mode, too, which aims for a 35% humidity level and is designed to help clothes dry faster. This mode lasts for a maximum of six hours, switching the compressor off at 40% humidity while continuing to run the fan to keep costs down.

Yes, there is an option of a charcoal filter to remove smells and volatile organic compounds from the air This makes the MeacoDry Arete One 10L pretty efficient, since it’s only ever running while it’s needed. Based on my tests in a room with a 20ºC temperature, this model needed emptying roughly only once every few days; if you set a lower humidity target and operate it at a higher temperature setting and humidity level, the tank will need emptying more often. It does a superb job of getting rid of excess moisture in the air, the automatic Smart Humidity Mode works perfectly, and in my tests, it reduced the moisture in my damp-prone rooms to the ideal humidity level in a very short period of time. I’ve been making great use of the Laundry mode, which means the machine will run for a six hour session and can slowly draw all of the moisture out of your wet clothes. With everything hanging on a clothes airer and the bathroom door closed I’ve found that it works to great effect, even though I usually stop before the six hours is up. Next, I’ll be trying the same with a weekly load from my washing machine and see how that fares. It’s way better than hanging soggy clothes on radiators too, with all of the negatives that delivers such as windows full of condensation.
