About this deal

This sharpener changed my life and my (already excellent German) knives. I'm slicing and chopping like a TV chef. Don't hesitate - buy it! A Flexible, All-Round Sharpener – One of the pros I had for the previously reviewed 3-stage Minosharp, was how incredibly versatile it was for a pull through system. The Minosharp Plus retains the same advantage. I’ve reviewed a ton of pull through style sharpeners, and ALL of them fall short to this regard. They all have a single stage, (and therefore a single abrasive/grit) which makes them inept or unable to provide a solution for every sharpening need. For a moment, I want you to consider traditional stones just for the sake of argument at hand. Granted you may be unfamiliar with traditional stones, and even care less to know about them, but the point I wish to make is directly related, so stay with me here! Have you ever seen a chef or professional sharpener use a single stone (with one grit by the way) to achieve that blazing sharp edge? I’ll bet the answer is no. They use different stones with different grits to achieve the desired result. The point I am trying to make here is that a single abrasive/grit is not always sufficient. Having a system that offers more than one stage is great, because it makes it that much more flexible, versatile, and complete. Due to the fact that the sharpening groove and the ceramic wheel are not parallel, the oblique angle of the ceramic wheel is able to restore the razor sharpness of the knife. The sharpener is sturdy, and has very good quality big ceramic stones. The ceramic stones are made in Japan, and the plastic is made in China. I would definitely trust the made in Japan quality, because they never fail me.

On the other hand, if the alternative is a Chantry, get the Minosharp3.These guide rails are designed to help maintain the correct angle for sharpening knives when sharpening with a whetstone. The angle is between 10 and 15 degrees.

Retains Its Simplicity And Ease Of Use – The Minosharp Plus is uncomplicated, and actually very easy to use. This should be the most obvious and least surprising of the pros in this review. One look at the product pictures and you’d already have an idea of how this thing is supposed to work! The wheels are color coded as white to be the coarse grit and pink to be the medium grit. Some people are not sure how much water to add to the compartment and the answer to this, is you add enough water such that when you spin the sharpening wheels, they are evenly lubricated with water. Rule of thumb: It’s always best to add less water than more! I tried out the Minosharp as soon as it was delivered, and I followed the instructions to use the hard grind for 20 times, then the medium, followed by the fine grind. Because my knife is quite damaged, I had to repeat the process two more times until the chip disappeared. Russums provide clothing, knives, equipment and books to the catering and hospitality industry. All our products are intended for use in a commercial environment and are of a quality level demanded by professionals and serious cooks. I'm not sure of the edge angle but I'm guessing from looking around 20*. I'm keen to take them down to 15* though, do you know if the minosharp has a stone capable of a regrind?

Like the MinoSharp, the MinoSharp Plus has two sharpening wheels, one rough and one medium. The are the exact same grits as the wheels in the MinoSharp only larger. Not only do the larger wheels create a longer lasting edge, they are also more powerful than the smaller wheels. This sharpener can return a sharp edge to a dull knife. The SH550/BR has a sleek and compact design and weighs just 230g, so it’s ideal for use in any kitchen, whether domestic or commercial. Although it’s compact, it’s still sturdy enough to handle easily without worrying about it becoming unsteady during use. Please note that during exceptionally busy periods our next day delivery service may not be available. The guide rails are sold as a set which includes a small and large guide rail. The small guide rail is suitable for knives with blade lengths less than 6". The large guide rail is suitable for knives larger than 6". The guide rails are lined with plastic to minimize scratching on the knives during their use. Any time you remove one of the guide rails from your knife, rinse and clean it thoroughly to remove any residue from the stone that may remain inside the guide rail. To further insure that no residue remains, it is recommended that you pull a clean towel through the guide rail after rinsing. If you fail to remove all the residue from the guide rail, the residue may scratch the knife the next time the guide rail is used. The Minosharp Plus 3 has 3 sets of sharpeners - fine, medium and coarse. The ceramic wheels are larger and longer lasting, than the wheels on the original minosharp.

There are 3 different kits, one containing a rough (240 grit) stone, one containing a medium (1000 grit) stone, and one containing a super fine (6000 grit) stone. Each kit contains a stone, a set of guide rails and a plastic holder which doubles as a storage box and a base to elevate the stone above a counter during sharpening. The storage box is ventilated so that the whetstone will dry if it is put into the box while still wet. The sharpener really lived up to its expectation, and i'm really loving it! I even used a piece of paper to test the sharpness of it like the demo I saw on youtube. It makes the process less aggressive– If you’ve ever seen someone use a ceramic water stone, you may have noticed how smooth and natural it looks. There is no resistance and the edge is slowly worked to perfection. Water plays a huge part in this as it reduces the friction and heat. It makes sharpening feel unforced! If ease of use is your primary consideration, one of these hand held sharpeners is the perfect sharpening tool for you. There are three different models, the MinoSharp, the MinoSharp Plus and the MinoSharp 3. All models can only be used for knives that are equally sharpened on both sides. They cannot be used for serrated knives or knives sharpened on one side like the Bunmei knives. All of the MinoSharps use ceramic wheels for sharpening.

Minosharp Plus 3 | Knife Sharpener Reviews Minosharp Plus 3 | Knife Sharpener Reviews

I've only sharpened my knife once since I bought it, and it's still very sharp after 2 weeks! I feel like my global knife is alive again! Just one chop, and my sandwich cuts in half, just like brand new when I first bought it. Knives From Japan Registered office Knives From Japan Ltd, Silversteel Manor, Carrwood Road, Sheepbridge, Chesterfield, S41 9QB, Registered in UKAnswer: I would not use this to sharpen the following knives: ceramic, serrated and single sided blades (like sushi blades). I would also refrain from using this to work on any tools (scissors and shears).
