About this deal

Two young writers have been named the winners of Poppyscotland’s learning competition, My Secret War Diary. Maya's Entry. It was a normal day, or so I thought. I got up, I took a warm shower, I had eggs and bacon for breakfast, I was about to go to work and turned on the wireless. What I next heard from Neville Chamberlain made my jaw drop. I only remember him saying, “Britain is at war with Germany”. With BRAVO, MR. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE! and TALES FROM SHAKESPEARE Marcia Williams introduces young readers to the world of William Shakespeare's plays. Another classic she has made much more accessible to children--and more appreciated by them--is THE ILIAD AND THE ODYSSEY. "My mother read me classics, but until I got older I never found them interesting," she says. "If I could make these stories more accessible, I realized, kids wouldn't have to wait until they were grown-up to appreciate them." Provide any other suggestions that would be useful regarding literary content, reading level, and other ways in which the book might be integrated: When Erik strikes up an unlikely friendship with German Radar operator, Hans, the pair soon become involved in a race against time to help destroy the Nazi warship, Tirpitz.

The powerful new novel from the master storyteller - inspired by the true story of one man who might have stopped World War II. She presents a vivid, private view into the life of a motherless girl between nine and fifteen years old, with a baby brother and a father away at the war. Through Flossie we see the fear, privation and great humour found in Britain 1939-45, and through her father's letters to her we also see something of the events of the war itself. Whichever style you choose, you should try to add some creative elements too. You should think of it as a bit of a scrapbook.

I walked into the living room to tell my wife the news. She was already miserable from the news about the war. When I told her she just sank into the couch. Partly autobiographical, this is first of the internationally acclaimed trilogy by Judith Kerr telling the unforgettable story of a Jewish family fleeing from Germany at the start of the Second World War

I have to kind of roll my eyes about the plot line with the "beach discovery." If one good thing came from it, at least Maddie couldn't brag about it! But I tend to dislike the books in this series where the narrator somehow plays a huge role in a historical event. Life without her hero at home, a little girls dad off at war fighting for their country's safety. This book is about a young girl and her struggles in everyday life worrying about her dad. She goes through her first crush with her neighbor friend Johnny. The young girl waits and waits everyday for her dad to send letters to her talking about how he is doing and how he will be fine and not worry. She works so hard to look out for her mom, and make sure she will be okay. She writes down in his diary about every single thing that happens in her life. Every single day is a worry waiting for her father to come home. We will commemorate Remembrance Sunday this year at the Stone of Remembrance, Edinburgh City Chambers. Wreaths will be laid by the Lord Provost, representatives from the Scottish Government, UK Government and the wider Armed Forces and Veterans community to remember our fallen at 1100 hours on Sunday 12th November 2023. When Pierrot becomes an orphan, he must leave his home in Paris for a new life with his Aunt Beatrix, a servant in a wealthy household at the top of the German mountains. But this is no ordinary time, for it is 1935 and the Second World War is fast approaching; and this is no ordinary house, for this is the Berghof, the home of Adolf Hitler. This is the war diary of 'Flossie Albright' who is a child living away from London with her Uncle, baby brother and for a while her dad (who joins the army). Flossie records what life is like/what happens to her during WW2. Flossie also experience evacuee's living with her.And what a story. The story of a young man, a young soldier in the trenches of World War I who, on the spur of the moment, had done what he thought was the right thing.
