About this deal

There is a thin rubber band at the camera end. But no other sealing at all. So altogether it is NOT sealed. But still a nice lens. A sunny weather lens ? It will also work with APS-C sensor cameras with an effective increase in focal length to 42-105mm due to the crop factor. The only real issue that I even really encountered is there were times when I wish I had just a bit more width in terms of focal length. There were moments when I wish I had the extra 4mm from the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN Art lens I was reviewing at the time as well. 4mm does not sound like a lot but when we’re talking about the wider end of the spectrum, it can make a larger difference. I feel like the 24-70mm gives me just that extra bit of versatility and flexibility. With that said, I’ve never been a fan of the 28mm focal length, so I’m sure that comes into play here as well.

Budget alternative: The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens may not be quite as bright, nor as sharp, and it’s not built specifically for mirrorless cameras, but it’s still available in L mount and is a steal for less than a grand. When a scene is no longer interesting from every angle, Insta360’s latest camera simply transforms into a GoPro-like action camera -- or a 1-inch-sensor Leica, if you prefer. Announced on January 7 during CES 2020, the Insta360 One R is a modular action camera system that allows users to switch lens-sensor modules and accessories.

Not sure what part of Canon failing to support fd/fdn on ef-mount is unclear to you. The glass adapter was a joke, fd/fdn owners were not happy about their mount being abandoned for a ef-mount that Canon is now abandoning again, in favor of rf-mount, the latest Canon fantasy mount that still doesn't have any 3rd-party lens support, despite being two years old. There's some noticeable barrel distortion at the 28mm focal length and slight pincushioning at 70mm which is apparent in both the Raw files and uncorrected JPEGs. The Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary lens has a fairly generously sized focus ring, which is ridged for easier grip. There are no hard stops at the ends of the range, making it harder to set focus at infinity. Polariser users should be pleased that the more economical 67mm filter thread doesn't rotate on focus. I love how the overdubbing made the outdoor portion seem lije the old Kung Fu movies where the lips didnt sync with the dialog. Ahhh, nostalgia...

Here’s a close up shot of a flower taken with the S1. The focal length was 70mm with the settings being f2.8 and 100 ISO. As you can see, great bokeh. Pros And Cons: Pros: With the lens set to its maximum aperture of f/2.8, there is some obvious light fall-off in the corners at both ends of the zoom range. Stopping-down to f/5.6 virtually eliminates this. No, EF-M lenses won't fit full frame Canon bodies. *EF-M is kinda all by itself in terms of its lenses only fitting its cameras.* Not sure why you'd want to adapt the dozen or so lenses available for this system anyway, when there are so many EF and EF-S alternatives. However, you can first party Canon adapter mount any and all full frame EF, and EF-S, lenses to any EF-M camera. There are also third party adaption options which include speed boosters to make the FoV and capture on the M camera full frame equivalent.Budget alternative: The L-mount doesn’t really have a cheaper ultra-wide zoom. If you can’t spend the cash, consider a prime like the Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art. The optical design of the SIGMA 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary is largely based on the 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Art, which is renowned for its outstanding optical performance throughout its zoom range. In terms of video autofocus, the Sigma 28-70mm DG DN has the potential to be a really great option. Not only does it offer silent autofocus drive and very nicely-damped manual focus, but it also has well controlled focus breathing. There's only a bit at the 28mm wide-angle end and very little at all by the time you zoom in to 70mm. The Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 does come with a petal shaped lens hood. Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 DG DN Contemporary Lens Autofocus: Lastly, the 28-70mm also comes with a petal shaped lens hood. In addition to flare protection, this is great to have when you want a bit more protection for your front element.

Photos are sharper in the middle and than they are at the corners, but if you're not looking for perfection you can save yourself a fair amount of money. There is some barrel distortion that you would expect from a zoom lens, but it's easy enough to correct in post-processing. There's both good news and bad news on the bokeh front. The Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN's bokeh has a really pleasing, smooth look to it, with only minimal onion ring effect and smoothly-rounded, step-free edges even when stopped down to F4.The lens comes with an AF/MF switch ②, which has a firm but ergonomic action, and the focus and zoom rings ① are smooth and precise owing to SIGMA’s advanced lubricant technologies.

I do think that Sigma ought to have made this new lens a 24-70 to give it an advantage over the superb Tamron 28-75 which really performs well at F2.8 " -AdamT Ironically the results in outdoor sunshine where quite impressive.. youtube thrashes the quality of video beyond recognition... audio was an issue Do you need the Sigma 35mm f/1.2 Art? Probably not, but you’re going to want it. It’s a lens worth showing off and, considering the f/1.2 aperture, is also reasonably priced relative to the f/1.4 competition. The issue is keeping up the speed. To lengthen the wide end, without speed loss, will make the lens far bigger, as I understand it. And costlier, and heavier, to boot. Results at 70mm follow a similar pattern, but with softer results overall, particularly at close focus distances. Wide open, portraits can often look a little dreamy.
