About this deal

While the process is similar to the one above, this time you’ll begin with 600 grit sandpaper. As before, wet one piece of 600 grit sandpaper and use circular motions over the scratched area for around three minutes, alternating with a dry piece as well. Next, do the same with the 800 grit paper for a further few minutes and finish with the 1200 paper until the scratches have disappeared. Dry the area with a clean cloth and then restore the shine with the acrylic polish. Whether acrylic plastic is being used for home use or commercial use, it’s an unfortunate reality that it may accidentally become scratched. Fortunately acrylic’s physical properties allow it to easily be buffed with special, slightly abrasive solutions. If a scratch is less than 5 mm deep, it’s a simple procedure to fix acrylic.

Apply a coin-sized amount of scratch remover onto your rag. Acrylic scratch removers, such as Novus or Turtle Wax, help polish your plexiglass and buff out any light scratches on its surface. Squeeze a dime-sized amount onto the damp cloth, and rub it into the cloth to spread it. If you have multiple scratches you need to remove, use a quarter-sized amount instead. [9] X Research source

For light scratches on acrylic

Wet a soft cleaning cloth with warm water. Use a cleaning cloth made of a soft material, such as cotton or microfiber. [6] X Expert Source Claudia & Angelo Zimmermann

Novus plastic polish is a one stop solution for restoring and revitalising plastic products. Novus has been formulated to completely restore scratched, faded, or discoloured plastic materials. Some scratch removers don’t actually do what they say on the tin, but instead fill marks so they become less visible. No fears of that with Advanced Compound, because it is free of filler and contains no wax or silicones. Like our winner, it can be applied by machine polisher or hand, but has a 3,000-grade maximum abrasion, putting it in the same medium-cut compound range as Regenerate. It marginally topped our tests, but not by enough to overcome Regenerate’s price advantage.

Final Thoughts

a machine polisher. Despite this, it worked well with just hand application, making good improvements to the overall shine in its section. Much like Auto Finesse’s Tripple, it could not make the same inroads on the blade marks as our top two, but it did enoughto secure a top-four finish. Wet sanding slowly levels out the surface of the plastic with a bit more force than toothpaste or baking soda, making it ideal for deeper scratches. Moisture keeps material from building up in the sandpaper, preventing further scratches from marring the plastic. Finally, dry the area with a soft, dry and clean cotton cloth, applying the acrylic polish and the acrylic should look like it has never been scratched! The polish should restore your acrylic to a high level of shine. One of the most common questions associated with acrylic or Perspex is can scratches be removed or repaired? The answer depends on how bad the damage is, but in most cases, they can be removed relatively easily. Follow our guide on how to repair visible damage to your acrylic sheets. After following this procedure, your acrylic should appear scratch-free. Polish the plastic using Novus No. 1 for best results.
