The battery capacity could be a little higher for a premium phone and it's a fingerprint magnet, but other than that, the Honor Magic 4 Pro is still tremendous in almost every way. The Honor Magic 4 Pro was the first flagship device produced by Honor after it parted from Huawei in 2020, and it remains a resounding success to this day. What's more, given the arrival of its successor, the Magic 5 Pro, the Magic 4 Pro is now cheaper than ever. From the main screen there’s the usual Android experience and everything you see can, of course, be altered to your taste. I switched out the keyboard (I prefer the Gboard from Google) and removed the Google search widget which is in the lower-middle part of the screen here.. Both of these are designed to replace Google Play and, on a lot of other brand-new Huawei and Honor phones we’ve been looking at recently, this is the only way to get apps because Google Play simply isn’t there. Here, though, no need to worry – you’ve got Google Play and every other bit of Google goodness.

The second camera is an 8MP sensor with an ultra-wide angle 17mm lens and F/2.4 aperture. This allows you to capture ultra wide images such as landscape or even full body portraits close up. The effective angle is 120 degrees wide. When shooting using the ultra-wide angle lens, do not be alarmed when the framed image on the screen suffers from fish-eye effect. This will be corrected by the camera software. Again under the performance heading, we ran 3DMark benchmark, the Sling Shot Extreme and as expected, the Honor 20e scored a middling 1080. The average for all Android devices is 2140. Sling Shot Extreme is a demanding benchmark. As such, even with an OpenGL ES 3.1 score of 989, it still outperformed 72% of phones in this test. Setup Enhanced services such as WiFi+ to automatically switch between WiFi and mobile data, turn on or off WiFi and obtain your location. Then there is weather service with location awareness and HiSearch for online and local searches including image driven search using the camera. This, though, is a new Honor phone which does have all the Google apps and Google Play. Basically this is because it’s been slid through as a “tweak” to the Honor 20. In fact, since Huawei sold the Honor sub-brand in 2020, Honor's flagship handsets have often proven some of the best phones, period. For instance, the company's latest premium offering, the Honor Magic 5 Pro, boasts some of the best display and camera credentials money can buy in 2023 (read our Honor Magic 5 Pro review for our full thoughts on that device).
We established that the mid-range Honor 20e smartphone comes with access to Google Mobile Services (GMS) core with some compromises. It is powered by the Kirin 710F 12nm chip and runs Android 9.0 (Pie) with EMUI 9.1. Both the hardware and software are a little dated, but works well together offering plenty of speed and headroom to handle multiple applications simultaneously. What is in the box We’ve looked at a number of Honor devices lately. The Honor 9X and the Honor 9A– both very good phones considering how cheap they are.

The Honor Magic 4 Lite is respectable device for its price. It offers a sizeable 6.81-inch display that boasts a 120Hz refresh rate. It's a typical LCD display with some poor viewing angles at times, but other than that, it looks good. Minor issue aside, though, the Honor 70 continues a strong path with fast performance and similarly fast charging. Great battery life means it'll last all day without issue, too. Elsewhere, the Honor 50's main camera works well, but it's the selfie camera that provides bold imagery with natural-looking depth effects that further improve things.Everything else is fairly standard, albeit reliable, but for selfie addicts, this could be a significant selling point. There’s smile capture, audio control and AI so that images are tweaked to look their best depending on what you’re taking a photo of. No HDR here from what I could see though.There is a lot to like about the Honor20e. You may not get 5G connectivity or WiFi 6, these are features reserved for flagship smartphones but it is still nippy. Camera performance is better than expected. Low light performance gets a helping hand with Super Night mode, but only if the subject stays relatively still.

It is important to strictly use Honor authorised repair services. Unauthorised service providers may not be equipped with Honor certified repair tools, and may not be professionally trained or have the required knowledge to repair Honor products. This may lead to further damage, device performance issues, or safety hazards. Find the nearest authorised service center below. Oh and yes, as mentioned before, the Google Play Store is indeed here, so no need to worry about not having that. It means that all the links you find on the internet, all the normal apps you expect, will be there and it’ll work in the same way as every other Android smartphone.. The colour is vivid, motion is sufficiently smooth and jitter free, and you can push the brightness right up when viewing outdoor. By default, video will play in a letter box fashion, but you can pinch and zoom in for a full view. You will however notice the dewdrop notch when you do that. Elsewhere, the display is TüV Rheinland certified which means it reduces blue light radiation to protect your eyesight and prevent eye strain particularly when using it in dim light. If I was to choose a colour though, I’d definitely go for the Phantom Blue – it just has a more individual appearance. We recommend that you set bedtime mode and use blue light filter schedule under Settings > Display > Eye Comfort. You can also set Bedtime mode under Settings > Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls. Set your bedtime to silence the phone and put the screen on greyscale.
