Kill Team Bring an Ork Scrap Town To Life With the Terrain in Kill Team

Kill Team, for me at least, has always been about personalisation. One of my favourite things to do as a hobbyist is to look at people’s heavily converted and individualised Kill Teams, and that is being taken away from players – at least for the time being. Whilst this box isn’t the root cause of this, the new edition which it heralds is. As you’d expect, the book is also filled with plenty of awesome artwork and pictures of world-class painted models. Should an operative lose all their wounds during a mission, they’ll have to make a Casualty Test at the match’s end to determine what, if any, persistent damage they sustain. Push them too far without letting them rest between missions, and that bullet wound to their skull might be a little more permanent than you had anticipated. Each time this operative ascends or descends a terrain feature while climbing, the first vertical distance of up to 3 it travels are counted as for that climb. The Orks don’t have the same firepower, but make up for it with greater numbers, beefier maximum wounds, and the Throat Slittas rule, which allows them to charge the enemy directly out of concealment. The set also includes a double-sided folding gaming board measuring 30" x 22.4", allowing you to build a battlefield suitable for games of Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team. This durable boards feature different artwork on each side and can be combined with other gaming boards to create battlefields of any size. I did have a few problems with building some of the terrain pieces, though. A lot of the buildings are held up on support pillars that need to be attached individually (this applies to all four of the larger Ork structures, the oil rig, and the two smaller bi-pod platforms). None of these pieces of terrain, however, have obvious moulds or indentations to guide where you are supposed to attach these supports.

We really mean it when we say Kill Team has been completely rebuilt. Every rule is bespoke, and they are no longer based on the Warhammer 40,000 rule set. GA refers to how many models can be activated. Whilst most operatives have a GA value of 1 some have higher values and can have more than one operative do something in a turn.Fort: The four Wall terrain features in this mission are combined to create a single Fort. Operatives cannot move into this Fort - they must instead climb onto its Vantage Point. Of course, as with the DKoK, the majority of the Orks can be assembled in different ways, either as Kommandoz or various specialists, so you’ll have plenty of build options to choose from – as well as plenty of spares for your bits box. Your Kill Team will also nowbe subdividedinto one or more Fire Teams, depending on your faction – a mechanic intended to add structure, and differentiate between elite Kill Teams like Space Marines (who can only take one small Fire Team) and squishier factions like Imperial Guard, who (as you can see in the graphic above) can field two, with more operators in each. I guess there’s nothing to stop you from converting the pants off your chosen Fire Teams, but it’s not quite the same as having unique figures and units making up your team. Whilst I have no doubt the community will figure out some kind of workaround in the near future, these rules changes have led to my enjoyment of this box has been somewhat overshadowed. Whilst the Death Korps of Krieg has never looked better, and the Ork Kommandos are just downright incredible, I can’t escape the feeling that everyone else has been somewhat left out in the cold.
